Need suggestions for a P60 build. I have a Solarforce L2X (2x18650) I’d like to do something special with it.
Can I build a P60 using MT-G2, XHP50.2 or XHP70.2 ?
.
I see this build-your-own P60 shell: at MTN.
Takes a 17mm driver and a 16mm MCPCB. I plan to build it myself but I notice for the “Custom Build Option” it shows: “no MT-G2 or XHP70 LEDs”
.
Any input would be appreciated, suggestions, info or advise, including driver recommendations.
Also suggestions for wrapping the drop-in to improve heat transfer, best material, method etc.
It looks like (at 3A) I could get around 2000lm with MT-G2 or around 2500lm with XHP-50.2, I think.

Here’s a pic of my host. It’s the L2X tube, I’m planning on using an L2T head. (different head currently)
Thanks for the reply. Well I’m a bit confused now on that. What driver are you referring to that doubles the output current with 2x cells, direct drive maybe?
I thought the driver limited the output current, unless it’s direct drive. I was thinking a constant current driver, or is that not possible?
Thanks for the reply and recommendation. I’ve seen he builds excellent drop-ins, but that would be quite expensive and not as much fun
Looks like $50-$60 for ones with a 3v LED, so I guess a 6v LED would cost even more. Definitely will consider if I decide to go the off-the-shelf route.
Adventure Sports used to make a P60 copper pill specifically designed for mtg/xhp leds so that you could build your own dropin. I’m not sure if he still sells them but they weren’t cheap, I think they went for around $45.
Yes, that I understand.
But Lightbringer is saying it delivers 6A because the voltage is doubled by using 2x cells (see posts #3 and #6 above) That’s what I’m trying to understand.
Ummm, nope, I was saying it’s twice the power (thus heat), because the MT-G2 and XHP-xx are “6V” chips, not “3V” chips.
So whether you’re supplying 3A from 2 cells in series, or 3A from 1 cell and boost driver, you’ll be burning off twice the heat vs 3A to a single-chip LED like an XM-L.
