My C8 went poof!

I got a Ultrafire C8 from DD a while ago but never really used it. I went to check it out last niht and noticed a rattle in the head. I screwed the driver assm up to make contact with the reflector to get rid of the rattle. I must have screwed it too much because when I tightened the head, it started changing modes on it’s own and went out. Now it is kaput. I know it is shorted or fried and I know it is in the LED/driver unit not the tailcap or anything else because I tested it and it is dead.

What to do now? It was only a $13 light so buying a new driver/led might not be worth while. Is it toast? Can it be modded? I kind of like the liht and hate to just let it die. I know nothing about what kind of unit it is. The only driver I know by name is the P60. What is the one for the C8 called? Are there replacements? Anyone modding these? Any upgrades? All ideas and suggestions appreciated because I am “in the dark” on this.

C8 Pill

I have thought about kaputting my C8 on purpose, just so I could buy this.

There are other ones around as well.

You can get a 7135 driver for $3-5, so replacing it sounds reasonable to me.

I was concerned when reading the title that your torch had changed it’s sexual orientation……phew!!! :face_with_monocle:

Sounds like you have a reflector short. You’ll definitely need to insulate the reflector back-side.

$15 for that nice C8 pill looks pretty good, until I think “Hmmm, for $15 more I could get the new version of teh XIN TD C8”

I have both.

the UF-C8 is lighter and smaller in my pocket. I posted about the Intl-Outdoor screw-in in the past…

I think the reflector shorted the led but the damage is done. It is toast. Kind of a defect in design but for $13 you get what you pay for I guess.

Why PCB didnt kicked in?
