When I first got a cooly I didn’t mind that it couldn’t tail stand but I later wished it could and didn’t do anything about it… till now. I recently fitted a plastic disc to an FM26650 so it could tail stand. It’s very basic and just pushes onto the rubber boot (so it is not all that secure, or stable really).

It got me thinking about something for the cooly. I kinda like the tailcap on the supfire L5, maybe more because of the fact there is no switch at the tail.

So with inspiration I set to finding a ring to fit on the tail of the cooly. Believe it or not the best thing I could come up with was a slice of tube from a M*glite (D size). I dremeled the inner diameter some then heated the ring with a heat gun. The idea was to hopefully expand it just a little, press it on, then let it cool and tighten. Bad idea really, I hadn’t properly thought it through because as I pushed the cooly tail into the ring the cerakote started melting a little. Doh! I filed the ring again after fitment to make sure it sits level. I think it’s ok, I mean at least it tailstands now ![]()
