My first XHP50 build

Parts used:
Convoy M2 Version 2
XHP 50 5c on a RED Noctigon (copper of course!)
Q-Lite Zener 22 mode driver 3.04A (Wanted to just let the LED cruise at idle)
Soldering iron used Weller WTCPL from 1971
Cheap helping hands used to hold Various positions for soldering

Here are the pictures starting first with the host and parts from Mountain Electronics:*

I did not get any screws to bolt down the MCPCB so I used a spacer between the reflector & MCPCB.

*
The pill does not remove the from host so i used my own wire (which is much larger) and attached the LED first and through the pill:*

all together sorry I missed a few pictures ( i dont want to take this apart for the 5th time, so when i build a second one ill take many detailed pics

And Drum roll,…….ta da! We have light!

Beam on a white wall Looks so pretty

Hey we’re getting the full 3amps at the tail:

Lastly a beam shot compared to a XPG2 2900K 7c4

I am happy with this build, i plan to build a second but this time with a 4.5A driver that should put out some serious power and heat. This host is a FLAT black absolutely no shine i wasn’t expecting that kind of finish but it is unique and stands out. NOTICE: Crenelated Bezel is Pure Ti

Here is a pic of a few of my lights just to show the finish on the Convoy M2 Ver. 2

An integrated led shelf has a bit better thermal path than a removable pill but it does make it harder to solder since the last step has to be done inside the light. Nice job.

Good build. There’s still a hint of dark spot in the middle, but the OP smooths it out nicely. You’ll never notice in normal use.

How warm does your M2 get with it at only 3 amps?

I’ll bet it gets very hot. It’s still 24watts of power, equivalent to a 3-4v LED at 6amps.

My XHP-50 at 4 amps heated ridiculously fast, and that was in a bigger light than an M2.

The m1 has the removable pill with screws

I'll tell you what, it takes about 15sec before you start to feel the head warm up after about a minute the body is warm and head is hot to the touch not burning hot. IMO this is a nice build but using 2x 18350s or 16340s doesnt give much burn time if one were to run this on high all the time. You see i use multi mode starting always on a low setting 15% or lower and when need be can bump it to max. This build is not a run it on max all the time. My turbo timers get set to 60sec.

Stay tuned for a Convoy M1 XHP-70 build.
