My Maglite Smells funny.

My Maglite smells funny when opened up. Is this normal?

you probably don’t wash it enough :stuck_out_tongue:

Umm...

Which model, how old, what batteries?

don't smell it.

They are just Duracell (they aren't new... they "expire" in 2014" alkaline 4Ds.

The flashlight's 2009, LED and clicky. The model I am not sure of.

If there is no sign of leakage at all on the batteries, then I would think it might be in the led. I’ve never seen a switch cause a smell.

That's what I was thinking. Are there any bad chemicals in the LED I should know about?

I don’t know for sure. Never looked up what is in them. Is the LED discolored?

No. The output is white and the color is normal.

It does smell like factory. That might be the issue.

So the output is normal? Just as bright as always? and the batteries don’t smell when you take them out? If you screw the head off, is the smell stronger? Is there any sign of a film on the lens, like a residue?

Like a new car smell?

I said in the first post the smell is only existent when opened. There is gunk on the lens but that's just dirt, etc.

Sorry, when you said opened, I figured when the tail cap was taken off.

Actually, the smell is spread through the light. (both ends)

OMG there are just tooooo many responses to the OP that would make great stand-up comedy but be over the top here at BLF. Redd Foxx, where are you when we need you???”

Have you lent it to anyone?

Does your Maglite smell like your other fleshlights flashlights?

Was your flashlight previously used to conduct body cavity searches on guys trying to bring LI-ion flashlights onto planes?
