Picked up these two babies recently, and am very pleased with their build quality and performance. The warm 3 x XM-L was from fasttech and the 4 x XM-L2 from ebay.
While the bodies appear identical on the outside, the logo on the FT SRK looks somewhat distorted and the contacts inside the two torches differ.
Was pleasantly surprised to find XM-L2 emitters available on a budget light… definitely significantly brighter than my 3x XM-L warm model, but it’s not really comparing apples to apples I guess… or at least it’s like a Granny Smith to a Red Delicious.
Anyways, what do you guys think, did I get something special? Paid just under US$50 for this shipped and am just excited it has XM-L2s in it!
Anyway, for your viewing pleasure. Will post inside-the-body shots shortly.
More pics of the two lights for your viewing pleasure. The SRK 4xXM-L2 (Hereafter noted as SRK4) is always on the left while the Fasttech SRK 3xXM-L (SRK3) is always on the right of each photo.
What I noted after comparing the two lights:
SRK4 has lubricant applied to the threads, a better interior chamber for the batteries (each cell held in place and doesn’t roll around even when only one cell is inserted, and a more proportional looking SRK logo, although the spring contacts at the bottom of the battery chamber has less coils (and hence seems less “solid” than the SRK3) - but appear to be made out of brass wire of the same gauge.
SRK3 has no lubricant, battery chamber less impressive, and distorted logo.
Overall the SRK4 seems slightly nicer body-wise, but I do like my warm light from the SRK3 which is quite unique… both are nice units!
