My SK98 Mod.

After being disappointed with my SK98 I thought it would make a great first mod.

After a lot of reading on here I have added in some copper pennies, bypassed the springs, changed to a biscotti driver board, upgraded the driver wiring to 22swg, added a XP-L Hi LED on Noctigen copper board with some thermal compound.

I have done some testing with the Lux meter and calculated the following results along the way:

SK98 Stock 2.1Kcd
SK98 with Biscotti Driver 5.725Kcd
SK98 with Biscotti, XP-L Hi, and all other mods 14.63Kcd.

The heatsinking seems to work well.
I have still to find a suitable replacement lens, or whether that would actually make a difference?
Maybe a few more 7135 chips would be nice

Anyway, a big thanks to all the posters on this forum. I am very pleased with the results.

Looking forward to the next one.

nice mod, I am working on a light like this right now, just keep having issues with it. right now I can’t get the driver board to ground to the pill. So still kind of shaking my head at it. Got any more pictures of it put back together and working?

thanks

Hello lotec25
Originally I was going to use an adapter board to convert 17mm driver to 20mm but I saw on here about soldering a 1.5mm copper wire around the outside as in my photo.
With a bit of filing this gives a great fit and is grounded all the way round.

I’ve just done a quick test beam out the window.

I would estimate the chimney pot is 150m away.

Good luck with your build.

I’ve added a couple more pics to the original post so you can see the driver fitted in the pil.

Very nice :+1:

Sweet  You did get the right lens for it
