Compare them as much as you like:
Even with that much ambient light, both torches seem to be doing well to light the top of that tree. It might simply be just the TN31’s colour temperature and narrower beam profile, but the TN31 looks like its out throwing the HID to me.
I have said on here that the 31 out throws the hid easily. I might do a video with the hid on the tree and then bring the 31 across it lighting it up. The 31 really is quite a beast.

I must be one of the lucky ones, my TN31 is perfect, and awesome.
I have seen some really expensive large reflector halogen shooting spotlights lights in action, and to me the TN31 outshines them all. Hopefully, I will get the chance to do some side by side comparisons soon.
While I don't have either, the 85 watt HID I saw in action was amazing it easily threw 600 yards. (This was in the middle of no where from the top of one mountain to the top of another)

If the hid had a larger reflector it might stand a chance. I’m excited that the TN31 throws so well and outhrows something that’s 7 times brighter too.

What HID are we talking about here, and also is it really 75W? How big is the reflector?
Is it the eBay 75 watt ? I heard that some need tweaking to get throw do to the smaller reflector. Does it look like

Looks like all the recent Ebay HIDs are sucky. 65W, 75W, 85W, and even if they pump out a 95W in the future.
This is my 65W (only) vs TK70. The TK70 is very very close to the TN31 as one very recent thread with beamshots has shown.

After seeing these beamshots, I feel lucky I didn’t buy the 85W HID. Looks like it need properly designed reflector to work. Why Olight or Fenix don’t design and sell HID flashlights? Really hope can get a budget and good brand HID. I am not saying 2100 picture as they seems to be broken and I can’t see them.

I’ve got it apart on my sofa now. It looks like it is out of alignment but it looks rather tricky to fix.
I’m also not sure how “tight” the beam hot spot should be when properly aligned.

Just been staring at the ceiling with the TN31 and the 75w hid pointing up. Moving around the reflector it certainly works and the hot spot IS brighter.
Tonight I’ll try again but adjusting it outside might REALLY annoy my neighbours.
