NEED A LIGHT FOR A SMALL GARAGE

Soo… I need a light for a small garage (about 2.5 x 5.5m which will be used for storage. There will be shelving across the three walls. Light Must be 1200+ lumens continuous if using a diffuser (diffuser reduces light output), must have an illuminated switch and decent runtime 100+ mins. Also has to be USB rechargeable. It will most likely be hung in the middle of the garage. So far I’ve thought of two lights LT1 or FT03 XHP50.2. Judging by the pictures i’ve seen it seems like the LT1 would leave a large unilluminated spot on the floor. Is this true? I know there is a prototype accessory which will focus the light down but will that prevent light from reaching the sides? Would like to hear your guys suggestions.

How about one of these?

Assuming you want something that runs on batteries instead of being plugged in to AC outlet?

+1. This is an awesome light! I just got mine and I couldn’t be happier. I love the LH351 emitters!

What about the efficiency? I doubt it’ll be able to match the FT03.

The XPL2 version would probably be more efficient than the LH351D; it is also rated brighter; it has a slightly cooler tint than the Samsung and looks brighter. I have both SP36 versions (also the FT03 with XHP50.2) and use 50E cells in both; turbo is not as bright as with 30Q cells but they don’t heat up so quickly and have more capacity. I once used them both to light a room for 20 or 30 minutes and they didn’t get uncomfortably hot. Someone else would need to speak to the relative technical efficiency of the SP36 and FT03.

Left unattended at full blast, wouldn’t it get scorching hot after a while? As in too hot to even turn it off?

I once had an S2+ tailstanding for only 5-10min at 3A, and I had to use a shirt as an improvised oven-mitt just to grab it long enough to shut it off, because my first attempt was like grabbing the business end of a curling iron.

Nope, the FT03 will step down just as fast or even faster due to the lack of thermal mass.

I’d say get the BLF lantern.
And the Sofirn BLF SP36, for backup

Yep, i have the same experience with an S2+, i’ll never forget that feeling.

There was a post comparing the SP33v2 xhp50.2 to other lights like the Q8, C8F at 1000lm and it had much better thermal performance than all of them for some reason.

Found it. Heres the post by Di_Joker

This is interesting data.
As a user, I proceed from the real temperature behavior of flashlights. I do not like to burn my hands, and I have to shine long and brightly. Most often I use a brightness of about 1000 lumens and collected some data. From these data, I concluded that the XHP50 in 1000-1200 lumens has serious advantages:
Air temperature 24°C, without cooling.
Sofirt C8F 3*XP-L(990Lm) – 58°C 20 minutes later. And (650Lm) 50°C 20 minutes later.
Sofirt SP33 1*XHP50.2(1000Lm) – 41°C 20 minutes later and 47°C 60 minutes later.
BLF Q8 4*XP-L(~1100Lm “Group6-Mid2”) – 47°C 20 minutes later.
YLP G180 9*XP-G2 (800Lm) 45°C 60 minutes later. And (1400Lm) 69°C 60 minutes later.
Wowtac A5 1*XHP70.2(1800Lm) – 58°C 20 minutes later.
Eagtac DX3B Clicky 1*XHP50.2(850Lm) – 47°C 20 minutes later.
I tested LH351D only the HI-СRI 4000K version and these flashlights were heated in about the same way XP-L 5000K.

SP33 v3 has USB charging, I think it should be a contender for you needs!

Sofirn SP36, just use 2 double clove hitches on the light to hang it with

55 usd including bats

When u need da KAPOW !!!

I’d buy a budget minded light bar and a deep cell battery. Hang it from the ceiling. Maybe a few of those 6 led pod lights, string a few up. Wire up a switch on the wall near the door. Charge the battery once in a while. Works for my small shed. 8’x8’.
