Need help / advice for broken worn out lights needing refurbishment

handful of lights, some still work but with weld splatter to lenses, some missing lenses and damage to reflector, some not powering on at all (bad switch, driver?)

I am mostly interested in the refurbishment, upgrade/mod of the x100. That was my favorite light out of the group until one of the emitters burned out. I did perform a driver upgrade

What would you do to repair / mod / upgrade these lights? I am a novice when it comes to modding. I was able to perform the driver mod for the x100 but now that some of the emitters burned out, i don’t know what should I do for emitter upgrade. Am I able to upgrade to xpl hi / xhp70? I clearly need good advice as I am very much a novice

What would be good mods to do for all the other lights?

I see 7 photos.

I just see one.

i updated original post with a link at the bottom of the first post to my google photos account where you can see the pictures that way.

For some (or most) of the lights shown in the right column it would be more costly to repair than to replace. Maybe you should consider investing in new lights with modern components, which should serve you well for many more years. Let me know what you think so we can come up with some great suggestions :+1:

This picture makes it a bit difficult to tell with 100% certainty if those are genuine XM-L emitters, but I assume they are. I would suggest removing these seven emitters and replacing with seven matched new-gen high-bin XM-L2 emitters. That would be significantly brighter… even than genuine first-gen XM-L emitters. If they are LB clones, it would be even better. Using XM-L2 emitters would let you keep the existing PCBs and centering rings, so focus will be the same as before. You could use XP-L HI emitters to improve throw, but you would have to purchase new PCBs and centering rings. What is the drive current? You might benefit by upgrading to some DTP boards… Also, replace wires with thicker leads throughout the light to minimize resistance…

Other lights… you are on your own. Those look like some serious beaters there that have had rough lives… :open_mouth:

I have one of the ones on the upper-left, and I modded it with an XM-L2 emitter and think I did a resistor mod (soldered a resistor on top of one of the already-existin resistors and it has been my favorite lights for going out into the dark around the house. It throws pretty well and also now, has good coverage and is very bright. I got it on sale from Meritline over a year ago, and now wish I had bought more of them.

EDIT: Here’s an old thread about it…

Now I see one photo, weird.
