hey guys so i was building a C8 the specs are C8 BLF A6 direct drive driver and a Cree XPL-HI and for some reason both spring melted on the project i know its because of to much power but what would have caused this problem?
its not the first time i’ve done this but first time this has happen could the driver be faulty? shouldn’t the current be regulated by the spring and LED?
Fet driver/direct drive allows the max current that your LED can take…so it only depends on your battery.
If your LED + battery combo can take 10A, your springs melt !
The only way to avoid this is to bypass your spring with silicon wires/copper braid or to use a lower current capable battery
It all depends on the spring. Different springs consist of different alloys. A spring with a higher copper content is going to sag faster than tensile steel. I’ve modded many a light that worked great, then suddenly stopped. The springs sagged flat and the cells were just rolling around loose inside the tube. I jumper with copper braid on anything that has DD capabilities before I turn it on. After jumping the spring with wire or braid, you shouldn’t have anymore problems with springs collapsing.
I think i made a dumb dumb lol i may of had the reflector touching one of the wires on the LED i do not have a C8 XPl-HI centering ring i am using the one that came with it i am guessing its for a XML2 it works now. not getting much power only just about 3 amps at tail cap so i may just stick a 7135 driver in…. i did just try my hand at sticking on more 7135 i am shocking ended up every where except the driver lol!
Thanks heaps for the help guys appreciate it thanks!
