Need help to find 17mm driver for 2 batteries giving 5-8A 3V

As in the title.

I have an old UF-1405 which has tube for 2 batteries and need a driver for it.

Preferably in range of 5-8 A and 3V, but if not possible, I could do with 6V option too.

MTN is not an option since the shipping fee just kills.

Maybe a simple mod could do the job? Generally I don’t solder chips but if swapping/adding one would do the job I think I could take this risk.

Thanks in advance fellas

I believe the T4 uses a 17mm driver.
Will this fit?

Edit: I was wrong it’s 20mm

Thank you for checking this.

Yeah, 20mm is much easier to find, there’s also alternative on KD the P4000 driver, but filing/sanding 1,5mm around the pcb won’t work here.

Edit: currently I’m using BD39 driver but it’s too weak. Maybe there’s an easy way to increase its output?

Kaidomain offer a 17mm 3V-5V 5A Flashlight Driver Board. Would be suitable for 2 X AA batteries, but not two lithiums.

They also sell other 17mm buck drivers taking higher input voltage, but only giving 2.5 A output.

Yeah. But it’s not what I’m looking for.

That’s 2xAA driver, OP has 2x26650/2x18650 flashlight.

It’s also a 2x14500 driver…

But unfortunately it’s 20mm so it won’t fit.

Try to use any Convoy buck driver and hope that it doesn’t explode. I heard they can work but there will be no overdischarge protection.

From what i’ve read, the Convoy Buck drivers use a MP2145(Clone) the MP2145 is rated for a Max input voltage of 5.5v.
Does the clone have a higher Max input voltage?

Not many options for a two cell driver. Have you considered a single cell driver and using a spacer in the tube?

You could wire up an internal cell carrier to put them in parallel, and use a 3V driver instead

Thank you for all that feedback.

I’ve already tried with an internal tube but I wasn’t satisfied. It was a few millimeters too long, it would work with 2x 18500 but in general I don’t want to go into another size. Needless to say switching from 2x 26650 to 2x 18500 is a serious downgrade.

At the moment I’ve ended up with one dummy 26650 and one real but that’s a waste in battery tube too.
