My trusty EPL-2 failed miserably and I need a new camera. Exhausting looking at all the choices and even worse reading reviews where so many of these digital cameras seem to fail just like mine without warning no matter what the price range. Anyone know of a good quality low light camera under $300 that has a reputation for reliability as well?

I trust this website: Best cameras under $500 in 2021: Digital Photography Review

My Olympus EPL-2 was a very good cameral but one by one lens and electronics literally fell apart until I never want to see that brand again. Good camera review site thought, thanks for that.

I’ve got 4 Oly EPL-1’s that are still mostly functional……except the flash has failed on 3 of them. Plus the onboard capacitor/tiny battery, whatever it is that is supposed to keep date/time settings has failed in all of them so that info is lost with a battery swap and has to be put back in. A nuisance but it takes less than a minute to fix it.

Important note - these cameras have been used almost exclusively in scuba, where the flash is critical to fire the strobes. It’s either a hostile environment, or a protected environment inside the housing, depending on how you interpret the use. Flooding kills them outright, so maybe it’s kind of protected.

Suffice to say, they no longer can take scuba photos since the flash doesn’t work, but they are just fine as general use or outdoor cameras. The hotshoe is still good for external flash, which does not fit in the scuba housing. All lenses are fine.

@flydiver, that’s when you whip out and solder in an 18650 holder.

Get whatever combination of largest sensor size and largest lens aperture you can afford.

^^ not bad advice really, I should do that and get a list of cameras with large sensors and aperture and look for sales thanks.
