Difficult to find time to learn programming for a custom Anduril build. I’ve had luck with a Teensy file for a USB>MIDI footswitch using Arduino IDE, leaning on existing code with some extra functions, but I didn’t veer far. I don’t post on BLF much—I’m satisfied with my lights, as BLF and others nudged manufacturers right with Anduril/emitter swaps.
I’m seeking info on jobbing out a simple Anduril .hex for a personal tool project, not retail—night shift maintenance, solo, on the move with my tool cart. Goal: I’ll flash your modded firmware to an 18650 light, add an aspheric for a tight ceiling dot, flashing to show my location plant-wide. No big budget—$20-$30 target.
*Only mode: Beacon
*Hold for brightness up-down
*Click+Hold for flash interval up-down (1-10 seconds)
*3 Clicks from OFF for Battcheck
*4 Clicks from OFF for Lockout
*Possible 3C+Hold for flash duration (100ms default, if helpful)
Issue: I’ll turn it on/off often (20x/night), on camera—Anduril’s 3C to Beacon is slow. Can it remember Beacon on 1C, or need Simple UI/custom flash? I’ve installed .hex files before, but coding’s beyond me.
Let me know if build requires specific Atiny board.
If you can whip this up quickly, personal project, reply or PM. Know of an existing light/firmware like this? I’m all ears.
Thanks,
Robert (bansuri)
Okay, not what you’re asking for, but an alternative is the Skilhunt H200.
I like beacon, and the H200 is the only light I ever came across that memorises that you’re in beacon mode and doesn’t make you puke through strobe and SOS first, every single f’n time.
And like I said, I like beacon, and the H200 had one I liked. Good duration, good repeat rate.
Pricey, but you won’t end up with a weird one-trick pony, but a quite nice light you can use for other things or even EDC it.
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check it out! I’ve got one of their 18350 based headlamps that might even support that. If not it’s nice to know there’s an option. Thanks again Lightbringer!
Your suggestion led me right where I needed to go. I checked my H04 mini, (love a lot about it but just couldn’t fall in love with their charging, won’t be an issue for single-purpose work light) an lo and behold, 3 clicks from OFF straight to beacon! Easy enough, I didn’t know that feature because it just doesn’t get much use. I’d mentioned “on camera” because I can imagine the confusion if they watch me cycling through blinky modes, screwing it up and cycling through it again. Thank you so much! Might be a trick to get an aspheric in there but I’m not shooting for perfection, just a way to let my coworkers find me without the rigamarole of running the idea past management, safety team, etc.
I owe you one!
25’ + on the low side, sloped flat roof, so probably 27(?) or more at the highest point. Beam from this waffle lens will be uuuuge. Might swap a neat amber emitter that is same FV as our lights, aspheric lens to bring it down smaller. I’ll test as-is tonight before changing.
Reflector + aspheric makes for an ugly ugly beam, but try it, maybe if you can get a decent hotspot, stick a tube around it to kill off stray light which uglifies the beam.
You probably won’t need to build Anduril at all, and instead clone the beacon and battcheck code with your own FSM since you have space for spaghetti code now most of the ramping isn’t being used
