Got some different Tir optics in today for the HC30 and I broke a piece of plastic, seen here on the left:
In the middle is a similar piece from a EA41 pioneer, but which is half the thickness and on the right is something I cut off of a Tir holder.
I want to replace the broken piece on the left, but I have no idea what it is called.
Also could I use the white piece on the right in the mean time while I wait for the replacement?
Or even better can I just use the white piece and don’t buy a replacement piece?
I reacon the piece is used to keep the led from touching the cone and or keep the aluminium cone from touching the + and - wires on the driver.
So I did the 60 degrees tir first and made it to fit:
Would it be safe to use it without the broken black piece, due to it not being made out of metal??
Or would it melt or cause any other kinds of trouble due to the heat?
After some sanding and filing it fits like a glove.
I got a 15, 30 and 45 degrees optic I’m gonna do next and maybe even make beamshots from.
What happens when it does squeeze the dome? this is something I cannot see when the Tir is on.
Also I can already tell that 60 degrees is waaaay to much. and what is funny it kinda turns the NW into CW…… weird huh
I should explain better lol. The optics I have clip onto the led with feet. That is just there to stop it from spinning I guess. If it spins while tightening or loosening it rip the dome of.
It looks like your optics fit well you even fit the o-ring in?
Yeah with O-ring and glass lens I want to keep it waterproof.
I did take a way the white Tir holder there was no way I could fit that in the HC30.
So now it is just the clear Tir piece on the driver covering the dome.
The original cone was made from aluminium…. what would happen if that cone was to rest directly on the driver touching the live wires?
Would it break the driver or the unprotected 18650?
If it was the original reflector you would have a short circuit and maybe blow the led or driver. The optics should be fine i have been using mine for ages like this i dont think the wires are even touching my optics because its so skinny on the bottom.
My 15 degree optics is so floody the light just drops straight out of the torch. like if my HC30 is on my head it will illuminate my shirt
Just for good measure, what is that black ring called that goes arround the led between the driver and the reflector/cone?
In case I want to make the HC30 original again, I think I can get away with that white bit I got but still.
