I’d like to ask for some help from you guys and gals. I am not a modder, but I am not ruling it out for the future. I just need to learn a whole lot more before I try that sort of thing. I have a few lights that are mainly the inexpensive Chinese imports. I have 2 that I use most and forgive me if I get these model numbers wrong. The first is the SK68, uses 1 AA cell and the SK98 that uses the 18650 cell. I like the SK68 just because it’s small and handy and it uses AA batteries.
Now I would like to take a step up and get a better light. I’d like to have one that is charged via the USB instead of having to use a charger for the cells that it might require. I am not sure of the quality of my charger too. The USB charging seems to be very convenient. You can charge it in your car, with your computer and even with one of the external battery sources you might have for your cell phone. I’d like to try one.
I would like to stay under $50 for it. Right now the brightest light and best thrower I have is a Convoy XinTD. At least I think that’s the model of it. It does a good job of putting light out to distance.
With this light I am wanting suggestions on, I would like it to be a thrower as well, but it doesn’t have to be a nuclear powered thrower with blinding light…you know what I mean? Unless there’s that kind of performance in the price point I am wanting to stay in. I’d like a do all light for outdoors work. Camping, hunting, hiking, walking the dog, you name it. Anything that might need light at distance.
So, if you wouldn’t mind, can you please give me some ideas on what would be a good choice? I don’t mind if it’s from China as long as it is good quality. I had a couple Convoy lights that I gave away as presents, and they seem to be a good, quality light.
Thank you all for any help you care to give me.
Have a safe week.
Thrunite TC15 is a very solid choice, it’s not a thrower but it’s perfectly capable for outdoors.

So… latest light I got was the Sofirn IF25a. It is USB C charging, it is VERY capable of super output, but there is one caveat… it CAN get HOT! But, the way I see it is that it basically will be run at a medium setting 98% of the time (when not showing it off) and it goes in about any pocket easily.
This design is a light made for an EDC that uses a 21700 in the smallest form factor allowable. So it packs a LOT of energy into a very small package. The 4000k version has a very decent tint- natural to the eye for sure. I also have the 6500k version on the way and I am thinking it will be my SUMMER EDC due to it’s having brighter output with less heat needed to get it there (higher tints are just brighter). But my current 4000k light gets just bright enough for outdoor use running it right at the edge of “too hot” to handle right now in Kansas in July
Of course, one can wear a glove and run this light up to it’s max output and MAN… does it throw when you push it to Turbo. It throws a wider beam then my larger C8Fs and darn near throws as far. But the heat really is a factor you just have to get used to managing. I have 5 other lights that are about this size and NONE throw near as wide or long of a beam— but they also don’t heat up as fast too. It’s a trade-off of course. But I’d rather have it IF I NEED IT, but then run it about 60% for a great light with the occasional “bump” to turbo WHEN I need it.
For $29 (shipped to the US) both the 5k and 6.5k versions are available from the Sofirn.com store as I write this. Hard to beat given they also run Anduril which is such a great UI— check it out!
