Netflix Canada vs Netflix US?

Just signed up for the free one month Netflix trial here in Canada. Am I missing something or is Netflix Canada severely restricted compared to Netflix US? It seems I can find more movies and better variety on youtube.

haha, well that's got to be at least worth something. I just read Canada nearly has as many titles as the US but when I run searches, many hits come in the search bar but not available in Canada when clicked on. How can I complain when I have one month for free to try it out anyway.

If you connects to a VPN in the united states you can watch whatever is available to Netflix US. It’s the Netflix software that gets your region by IP address. If you have a US IP you get US content. The hard part might be finding a free VPN in the US. You might be able to find a cheap one but a free good one is hard to come by.

A friend of mine works at this company. The actual contract, legal licensing right(s) and distribution model is different depending on where you live or in what market you sign up with the service. This is very different in Europe when compared to CA/US, since copyright law isn’t as flexible as people roaming the globe. There are 150+ Netflix regions.

The change in actual content is something I can not help you with, though (I don’t have Netflix).

When my European friends change their IP to the US, they don’t get all the US content for free since Netflix has one of the most sophisticated VPN detection and blocking systems in place.

I guess you’ll have to try and see which ones work or if any work at all.

I just connected to a Canadian VPN and had no problem getting CA content. I also have the option to not have a static IP address so I can have a different IP address but, in the same region everytime I log in. I have also never tried to connect to a US VPN while in the UK so I cannot comment on that. I have also never connected to a UK VPN while in the US. I had never had a reason to even connect to a different country’s VPN until now just to see if it works. I can’t get Downton Abby on US Netflix but as soon as I logout, change VPN’s and log back in I can find it in my search and watch it.

I normally only use a VPN for certain things and that is not very often.

Thanks for the suggestions toddcshoe! Movies are better on Netflix than Prime (most prime movies are so bad it's not even funny) but not as big a selection of decent quality movies as I thought they may have. When I type in the search bar a country name followed by the word "movie", was under the impression there would be a large amount of movies from that country but not so.

Around 20% od US content.

I bought a (Vanished)VPN. with a mini Modem to link Automatically.
$100 a yr. plus $65. Hah.
About 6% more than std Aust content. No more.
They certainly see you coming hey.
Main problem, is Aust TV content is, on a good day. probably 5 to 8% of total content worth turning on for.
Living Livestyle. Food. Airports. and drunk/drugs driving. Plus this latest.
Married at first sight. As if.
How bloody hard up or brain dead are the watchers to sit watching that crap.
Never mind the idiots doing them.
Whatever happened to “normal ” entertainment??.
Rugby in season, plus Cycling. Tennis and Dakar race. That’s about it for me.

There are a few movies worth watching, but overall I would have to say that I have never seen such a massive collection of really bad movies in my life. Makes me cherish my blu-ray collection that much more. Netflix seems to be addicted to zombies or something, but whatever I say, I'm still stuck with them for a few months as my wife has become obsessed with Once Upon a Time.

I don’t know your preferences, but check out ‘Longmire’…’Intelligence’……’Black Ground Rising’…’Shetland’…the menus are not very helpful in finding content, but once you figure out how to find it, there’s more there than you can watch in a lifetime.

Try the search function using an actors name instead of ‘genres’, their whole filmography will come up. I found that helps a lot. We have Apple TV as well, but almost never use it because of all the stuff on Netflix.
