As chance would have it, this is my 100th post and in the spirit of the generosity of other members, I’ve been motivated to do something, yet desired something that will had an enduring impact.
The question naturally, was what ?
So every now and again we come into possession of items which we have no use for, whatever they be.
They take up space that could be occupied with new items that we could use.
They no doubt are of use to someone else.
We all like receiving new stuff/parcels.
Ahh, light bulb moment
The Never ending PIF thread idea is spawned.
What exactly is a “PIF” ?
It is when you Pay It Forward.
A generous and noble gesture, which in this instance, you are also rewarded for your gesture beforehand.
In this case, it will be offering an item of value in trade for an item of value offered by a third party, that another third party can claim and then replenish the spot with an item of value from their collection.
To clarify…
A has 123 on offer.
B desires 123.
B publicly posts their interest in claiming that PIF/123 and does the same in PM to the PIF donor/A.
If B is the first to publicly post, then A announces B has won the PIF publicly and replaces their name with B’s name on the list.
B, once receiving confirmation they’ve won the PIF and swapped relevant details/payment for postage in PM, updates the thread with their PIF for someone else to claim.
In updating the thread, they also post a separate post explaining what the item is, it’s condition, what they intended to do with it and preferably even why that didn’t happen.
A few rules.
It is a system of honour, so deliberately disrespecting/abusing it, realistically can expect adverse repercussions. (I personally would like to see them banned)
You have to have been a member for 30 days and reasonably contribute to the community before you can claim a PIF (This is my 100th post and in just under 30 days, it is not that hard if you make a reasonable effort and are actually interested in this hobby).
No junk. (We are not your trash disposal service - if not sure, ask before hand)
Torch/light, knife and related items only (exceptions may be made for individually hand crafted items if agreed upon before hand by participating members)
The PIF claimant is responsible for postage costs. (Reduce scabs participating that expect everything for nothing)
It’s a win/win, really: you get something new, and you get rid of something you don’t want.
If everyone in turn keeps it up, it could keep going for all eternity (or at least until someone offers up a CPF branded torch yes, that’s a joke ).
Sound good?
All right, then…
I’ll start with two items, with room for three other items if others desire to join in the generosity spirit to get this started.
