According to specs, this performs better than an SP33 with a 50.2. To reach these run times, does it have to be used in water? Obviously, I don't know about diving lights but I'm curious.

Wouldn’t it be better having Thermal Regulation instead of a 3 min step down. You’d think the water would keep it cool for longer runtime

Maybe this is a silly question, but wouldn’t a Smooth reflector be better for a flashlight that will supposedly be used underwater?
Meaning: is it worse or better to have a flooder beam?

This light surely seems good, even for outside of water use :innocent:

I agree with you. The SD05 has both thermal (55°C ATR-triggered) and timed (3min countdown) stepdown regulation. Thus it will stepdown after 3min even if ambient temperature would allow to use it longer on "high" mode. Personally, I don't see any reason to implement a timed stepdown when a thermal stepdown is already in place. The same discussion aroused with the 30min stepdown on High with Sofirn's SP70.

Ah, I didn’t see it had both but still could be annoying if you’re diving with it. Having a Medium of only 900 lumens may not be too impressive underwater.

A lot of Sofirn’s models drop too low after the Turbo

My suggestions to Sofirn's engineering team:

Please remove timer-triggered stepdowns from future drivers/flashlights
Please allow a user defined choice of ATR thresholds (e.g. 45°C, 55°C, 65°C) just like HaikeLite did with their SC26

To enter thermal protection setting by 10xclicks:
The light flashes once and turn it off to select 45 degree step-down temperature
The light flashes twice and turn it off to select 55 degree step-down temperature
The light flashed 3 times and turn it off to select 65 degree step-down temperature

I second that and totally agree with knop4eg. Is there a reaaom for two Hest limiting functions to activate at the same time? It’s stopping me from buying sofirn
