New build for xmas 2019.. Finished Merry Xmas

Inspired by the latest competition new builds ,
I decided to knock something up for xmas…
I have a 3v xhp50.2 and a lexel fet bistro driver laying around also a odd reflector that is 58mm dia
and 55mm long.(no idea of the beam pattern)and will use a 26650 for the power source.

With the lack of a decent boring bar(12mm) I decided to rough out the head on the mill.
Tool is a cheap ebay 16mm hss 4 flute cutter at 1500rpm had to use this big to get the depth 57.5mm
chip evacuation is a problem when boring holes

short video3 mins ,the machine spirals in 15mm at a time then expands the hole to diameter

Finally with a 10mm step down to expand to final drawing size,
This opp took around 30minutes total,
Next off to the lathe.

Do you normally “climb” mill vs conventional milling when circle interpolating the bore?

Wouldn’t it be faster to “plunge” mill then circle interpolate the bore?

Best way is to drill a hole and open that up.climb milling tends to leave a better finish.dont think I can plunge with that cutter.
Still learning this cnc stuff.

Small update thinking at work that I could use the metal that was removed to shape the head as the material for the bezel,

Machined a groove and ran a pilot hole for driver

into the lathe and parted off, material for the bezel instead of waste!

A small update ,
realizing I should have knurled the bezel before parting I’ve changed the design a little

Decided to cut flutes around the diameter (used the head to support it in the vice

bezel finished!

I have a Christmas, non-competion, project I will be starting soon. The last parts I had to purchase came in Saturday’s post. I will start a topic when I start cutting and drilling wood.

Nice video ltp. Good to see you remember how to use the lathe after spending all your time on the NC mill. Love the packer under the tool. Multi purpose fish tail gauge.
