new build for xmas (minime)

Hi all
Just going to slap together a light for me dear old dad for xmas (he’s 88)
it’s going to be a smaller version of my comp light with 2 x xpg2 led’s 16mm nocitgons
a blf x6 driver fed from a 18650 (30q Samsung) using convoy s2 reflectors.

here it is due to photobucket issues I am just reposting the finished item

comp light

comp light is 240mm x 85 mm the new light will be 140mm x 50 mm
guess it will be the mini me light .hope you all enjoy.

I like the look of that reminds me if the eax hammer

todays start at the arse end the tail cap.up to running the first thread

had a couple of ales so leaving threads till tomorrow

Your dad is a lucky guy!
Man I love this design!

You do have a Lucky Dad, and what you are making Him is Priceless!
That is Truly one of the Best Designs I have Ever Seen, it reminds me of Thor’s Hammer and just Awesome! Great start and I can’t wait to see the finished product…

It won’t roll off the table, that’s for sure

First time I’m seeing your comp light and it’s an awesome design!

Tail cap finished

start on the head next.

That is a mini me.
It was good to catch up for 10 minutes the other day. Dad was super impressed with your comp light, he said it was better than my effort. Maybe I should pay your dad a visit?
Looking forward with the updates to follow on this build. :+1:

couple of quick pics this was a pain to set upin the 4 jaw

.

and for size comparison

turned out ok.

Nearly finished.

not even half way

Ok so got a bit of time today, machined the recesses for the stars and reflectors /lenses
a couple of pics

pile of parts

plan is to slice 1emitter (1a) with the smooth reflector and leave the 2b emitter alone with op reflector.

not looking forward to soldering down in those holes…

and thinking of stacking a 350 ma chip on the the driver to give around 300 lumen low with fet high and strobe

try and machine the grooves on the flats next week…

Good Job! Looking forward to your mini!

Would it be possible to solder to the stars first?

I guess so .But then the problem will transfer to the driver side.
a bit more fiddly at that end .
I’ve got about 5 weeks so should be good

Looking good ltp. Hot iron with chisel tip, glasses are not optional here.

A little to report

To set the head up for the slots across the face

first mount the vice

trued it up with dial indicator wich I just got from banggood wish I had it for the other light.

make sure the head is sitting flat

setting tool depth for cut

cutting grooves

head done

added chip and extra wires to driver removed spring and fitted a brass button afterwards

assembled the head

so I slid a fresh 30q in and it drains 7.8 amps with my clamp meter,
just need to finish off the battery tube and give it a polish

You sure are getting this all down pat. Looking nice as usual. :+1:

Well like all big kids I had to get a beam shot

about 60m to shed
and 20m to tank

Iam wondering if the blf driver tops at about 8amps? or at least the ones from banggood ?
