New fenix E16, only 51 mm and automobile ultraflat lens

some basic info compared:
Olight S1 Mini High CRI: 54mm x 21mm, lowest mode is 0.5 lumens
Fenix E16: 51mm x 21mm, lowest mode is 3 lumens

both lights have tail magnets, both have clips that work on a hat, both have strobe, both have electronic lockout option, both have last mode memory

Fenix has XP-L Hi Neutral White option, Olight has XP-G3 High CRI option @5500k

both have Low Voltage warning
Fenix: When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output mode, the flashlight blinks three times every five minutes to remind you to replace the battery
Olight has a red led that turns on in the middle of the power button, as a low battery indicator. Olight does not step down to moonlight on Low battery, it will still work on other modes until battery protection is tripped.

both Fenix E16 and Olight S1 Mini weigh the same 22 grams empty.

The bezel is not removable on the Olight (no lip, it is inset into the body, removal is destructive), so LED swap is unlikely.

The Fenix UI is hold for ON, Hold for Off, click to advance modes, strobe is press hold for 1.5 seconds
The Olight UI is Click ON, Click Off, hold to advance modes, strobe is triple click

I prefer the Olight UI, I prefer that the Olight has a Lower Low. The Olight costs $10 more than the Fenix, which costs $40. (Olight can sometimes be had for 20-30% off, PM me for details)

If the Fenix can be modded to Nichia, that is a big advantage. I also like that the Fenix tailcap allows connecting a keyring.

I guess the Olight won me over the Fenix in the UI and the lowest mode, mostly! Not that I’ll buy it, but I guess it is quite better on those aspects!

Still, it is quite good to see that now all the manufacturers are (only) on “the biggest, the brightest, the better”! These small lights are very handy and seem to be quite well made!

So they sold out of the first run they had.
Unless they run some kind of coupon code or GB (a deal I just can’t refuse), I think I still prefer the Olight.

Thats Fenixlighting. FenixStore, says release date is Sept. 28th and is still taking pre-orders. I haven’t heard anyone getting one, and don’t think theres been a first run released yet. Fenixlighting may have sold out their pre-sale Sept. allocation.

If you want Nichia in this form factor, Klarus released a version of the Mi1C with the 219C a little while ago. Klarus’ UI isn’t as good as Olight’s, but it is definitely less bad than Fenix’s, IMO. Klarus uses a single click for on, long press for off, double click for strobe. I’m not a fan of long press for off, but I can tolerate it. Long press for on, though, just… no. Especially when Fenix uses a slightly-longer-press for strobe. That’s just a recipe for accidentally strobing yourself.

Klarus released a version of the Mi1C with the 219C a little while ago.

Wow! I had no idea, that sounds like an improvement over the Low CRI options… I would have wanted that IF it was the Aspheric version. The reflector versions of the Klarus have a tiny hotspot and large spill, that I dont like for my indoor use. In fact, Im expecting an Aspheric Klarus in the mail today.

I like that the Klarus Mi1c and Olight S1 Mini, and Utorch S1 Mini, include a USB rechargeable 16340…

the Fenix does not include a battery, it costs $8 extra, so when comparing prices, the Fenix costs $48 w battery, and the Olight S1Mini costs just $2 more. (I dont recommend the Fenix USB rechargeable, it is longer than the Olight version.)

It looks like it but Fenix describes it as “stainless steel CD-pattern switch.” To keep it light weight, it would have to be made of stainless rather than copper, a heavier metal.

yes, the Fenix has its own pros and cons, and the Klarus has its own advantages and disadvantages also

for example, the optics are completely different, the Fenix is a TIR with a wide hotspot and almost no spill, while the Klarus has a tiny hotspot and a large spill from a reflector.

Klarus also offers an Aspheric option that neither Olight nor Fenix offer.
Klarus and Olight offer High CRI models
Fenix and Olight offer Neutral White, but Fenix has No High CRI

The Klarus UI is different than the Fenix… imo Klarus has the advantage here, its UI is closer to my favorite, the Olight UI

The Klarus includes a battery and charging cable, Fenix not.

between a 219c Klarus, and a NW Fenix, I think the Klarus might be the winner overall
The 219c Klarus costs the same as the Fenix

the Klarus is 4gm heavier and 4mm longer than the Fenix.
Max on Klarus is 395 lumens High CRI, vs 700 lumens Low CRI on the Fenix

I wish I had known there was a 219c Klarus, when I ordered a regular cool white Aspheric model a couple of weeks ago… darn!

I was intrigued by the Fenix E16’s optic.

The beam pattern is primarily thowy like a tradional OP reflector with a central hotspot and secondary spill. But as a result of the shallow emitter placement, there is also a wider tertiary spill (160+deg.); this actually works well for close-up illumination. I can see more lights experimenting with this lens.
