I was watching one of my favorite outdoor hunting/fishing channels and they were advertising a led light powers by water .You soak the the cell into ways and supposedly get 100 hours of runtime no mention of out put or modes .I was just anyone else seen this commercial or heard of this or were my pains meds getting to me ?lol
Its a chemical reaction the salt water reacts with the Zinc and copper and acts as electrolyte in the battery set up to create energy?
Similar to most batteries. I guess Zinc Carbon batteries would be the closest setup?
Well, there are alarm clocks that get their power “by water”, so I guess you could run a few 5mm LEDs from that - but not forever because the metals that poke inside the water get eaten away

I would imagine that it is an emergency light that comes into play in the case of a boat capsize or something like that.
Nothing is powered by water itself, water can only act as a trigger/bridge/electrolyte/catalyst or something similar. The motion or heat of water can be used to power something but that is not the water itself.
There will be something else powering the light, just waiting for the water to set it off. It will almost certainly be a one time use disposable item.

Probably a copper and zinc cathode / anode plates suspended in water or salted water. Electrons will jump from one to the other, to create voltage potential and a current.
My son did this in 3rd grade for his science fair project.
