They call it Fipel (Field-induced polymer electroluminescent technology), there is little information out there beyond this link and wikipedia
No word on lumens/watt

if it were truly no heat that would mean 683 lumens/watt, which i doubt
CFLs average 75 lumens/watt, so beating that is good, but i do really want to know the efficiency of this device

It said it was double that so maybe 150 lm/watt?

This is pretty cool, but I think we should be looking at surface brightness per mm², because we need a small source of light (assuming that we want to use them in flashlights) otherwise we may not achieve bright compact lights which have decent throw.

But in terms of home lighting, I think strips of this along the edges in the ceiling wouldn’t be a bad idea, but even then, LED home lighting still hasn’t fully penetrated the market, so I doubt we’ll see these available for consumer consumption in the near future.

Assuming thats at more then 3 watts then its more efficient then the best production LEDs!

After reading the link a couple times and found some pros on LinkedIn, my opinion is that this is more for area lighting (lots of surface area) a competitor for the OLED’s used in led tv’s.

Probably be good for lanterns, not so much for flashlights (unles you love all flood) :wink:

Looks like a press release, but with interesting pictures.

this is cool. once its refined and available to consumers, its likely it will be expensive at first as its “new”technology.

Its not THAT cool, since the original post is 2012 and not much has panned out yet.
