I have used 18500 batteries instead 3xAAA adapter in my old led flashlight.
It was sony cells from old laptop battery.
18500 push more light and give better battery life but some leds and primitive flashlights died from that.
In that times before 20 years I don’t know nothing about leds, drivers, regulation. Today I think that situatuon about that is little better
I use an 18500 in my 3×AAA milk frother. Fits perfectly, but it’s an unprotected cell, so I need to check it repeatedly, because even at, say, 2.8V, it’ll still run like The Dickens, given that crappy AAAs sag by design.
I don’t think I ever found any protected 18500s before.
I also have a few S2+es with shorty tubes meant for 18350s, but with a nubbin in front and cut-down spring in back, fits an 18500 flat-top nicely.
