New project- BLF A6se triple

I got a package from Mountain Electronics today.

Copper Triple Spacer for Convoy S2+ Hosts - XP-L / XP-G2 / Nichia 219

3 CREE XP-L V5 2A LEDs on NOCTIGON 3XP COPPER MCPCB + JUMPERS

10507 Lens - 3-UP Narrow Spot Optic with Carclo XP-L Mod
And some other stuff for another project.

I thought I should add before and after pics

And once my tritium shows up I plan to do this

Nice idea with the trits. It ads another dimension to the looks. So the package you got from RMM was a complete kit to do this mod? It looks like it went together really well.

Well I already had the A6. So I wouldn’t call it a kit. But it did go together like Lego. I’ll be honest though, I was expecting it to be brighter. I’ve bypassed both springs but I’ll have to wait until my higher drain cells come in to see if that makes a difference.

Yes, awesome idea for the Trits in the optic.

What battery did you try it with? It should punch out some serious light with a high-drain cell.

Very cool and a good cell will make a big difference.

Do you plan to drill the optic yourself? If so how? I wouldn’t mind doing this for a couple of my triples but would probably go through a few optics before I met with success.

What driver are you using? I’ve never been disappointed by output on the triples I’ve built.

The current cell is the NCR18650B.
Yes I’m going to drill it myself. How? With a Dremel in theory. I’m fairly confident with my Dremeling ability. Buying a spare may not have been a terrible idea though.
The driver is the driver that came with my BLF A6se.

Sweet build. How many amps are you getting? Mine did 10A+ with a 25R(that’s the max my DMM could read). I’m not familiar with the NCR18650B, but I believe a battery like a 30Q or 25R would get you quite a but more output.

But at the same time, my triple XP-L Hi in a Convoy S8 (with the same FET driver and battery) had noticeably more output while pulling less amps.

Hm, Is there something different about the S8? I’ve never seen a proper table comparing all the various Convoy tube lights.
I see the S8 weighs 78 grams — 2 grams more than the S2 and S2+ (according to Simon’s AliExpress Convoy page description)

It’s pretty much the same as the S2 with a tiny bit more heatsinking which accounts for the weight difference. But the pill & reflector are the same. The switch is different though. The S8 uses the small Omten switch.

I’m not sure how many amps I’m pulling. I don’t even know how to test that. I’m new to this.
The cell I have on the way is the Sanyo NCR18650GA 3.6v 3500mah rated at 10amp continuous discharge , I hope to see a noticeable difference.

That’s a great cell from what I’ve read. I’m sure you’ll notice gains.

Which a regular Sanyo UR18650FM, I was only able to get 6.5A.

How do I test how many amps it’s pulling?

Thanks Dallas, but I read through that and I still don’t know how to measure the amp draw at the tailcap. I learned a lot about what will cause extra resistance and how to get a more accurate reading but I still don’t know how to take the reading.
Maybe someone can explain it to me like I’m 5 years old?

Note:I added some before and after pics to the OP and I will do the same once my new cell arrives.

oh ok i’m sorry 0:)
With a digital multi-meter, plug in the red wire in the 10A hole, then plug the black wire in the COM hole. Turn the dial to 10A so you are measuring Amps. Thats really it. Then with the tail cap and switch removed from the flashlight, put the black lead on the negative side of the battery in the light and the red lead on the aluminum lip around the back edge of the light without touching the other lead or the back of the battery.
With a well modded DMM it should be fairly accurate. Unfortunately, with the stock leads it wont be very accurate, but you can use the info for comparative purposes.

Hope this helps.

Yeah…don’t do that.

(Black goes in COM.)

oh shoot…
I looked too quickly.
Thanks for catching that.

Thanks.
Very helpful. Seems simple enough. I will purchase a DMM the next time I’m out and eventually report back.
Basically I’m just completing the circuit with the multimeter.

Thank you, sometimes I need things explained to me like I’m five.

Got anymore information on that S8 triple? How did you get 3 XP-L HI to run? 2 18350?
