Wonder how well the beams will converge, reflector’s don’t look the best for that unless they’re angled in.
Edit- I hope they do reverse protection on the D80 like Nitecore in their 8AA models and not simply place a diode on the MCU’s input. The way nitecore does it will shut the whole thing down if you insert just 1 or 2 cells backwards but everything else forwards (i.e. prevents reverse charging of the single incorrectly inserted cell, even tho that’s not to bad a concern with NiMH like it is Li-ion/Li-metal). If all they do is protect the MCU it’s really not worth much IMO, nitecore really got it right.
For some reason, I’m really liking the design of the D80A and D40C.
I think the beam pattern will be fine unless you are using it to shine something less than a feet away. Anyways it should be better than overlapping reflectors.
Perhaps a mistake. My Fenix E11 with 1 battery AA NimH, 30 lumens about 7-8 hours.
This D80A 8XAA, only 18 hours, 33 lumens. I think there are a mistake? on this information.
The EA4 and EA8 had very questionable heatsinking in some people's eyes. Coupled with Nitecore's extended delay in even acknowledging the self-destructing EA4 switch boot, I think they shot themselves in the foot.
i liked the EA8 on paper but wouldn't give Nitecore my money again. Other people may not feel the same of course.
i will be interested in the reviews on the new D80A.
Sunwayman builds top quality lights. I have the F40A, and modded it with warm White 3mm LEDs in place of the Blue ones, (to use as a warm lantern with the diffuser) and the main led to a XM-L2 3C neutral white.
Those have some potential. I wish they would do a Dual Head with one being a bright white dedicated thrower (dedomed) and the other being a warm (nichia) Mule set up. I don’t want all the discos and green, red or blue leds.
That Ti light is calling my name. Just a tad expensive though.
The beam’s definitely will not be alligned with those reflector’s IMO. I just waisted a bunch of money on lights like that trying to get a host for my new tint mixing UI, I tried maxtoch DX21 (and clones) and some others (including bike lights). In the end I found the nitecore Cx6 and EAx with their dual overlapping reflector’s the only usable sution for having the 2 beams alligned into one, otherwise it’s just like holdng 2 lights close to eachother, the beams do not converge at any distance.
I just got an EA8 and love it. Such a beautiful reflector. Swapped the xml for an XM-L2 U2 1A dedomed on a DTP board (zero driver mod’s) and am getting 152kcd from 4 or 8 eneloops. I’ll probably swap again to a XP-L since they don’t suffer lumen loss from dedoming. With the dedomed U2 I’m only getting 830Lm.
