This uses the Cree XB-D LED. Only 50 lumens, but if you see the photos, produces a better result than the 140 lumen TLE-5EX version….
Interesting, and the most interesting thing: you dont need to remove the original maglite reflector. It works with the stock one …… maybe better results in throw and focusing.
Never been impressed with terralux, they just seem to be expensive for the achieved result. My brother has a few of their dropins in various mags… the 4D dropin was not cheap either IIRC.
I’ve also never been a fan of pedestal mounted LEDs used with incan reflectors… but thats just me. Admittedly, there are some good mod designs (E1 and M6 for starters) out there that follow this convention.
On a more positive note, it does look like a nice way to upgrade a tired old AA incan mm, or breathe new life into one thats sentimental or special to the owner in some way. Nice to see one more main-stream brand upgrade to a newer emitter. Kind of wish they (teralux) used warmer tints and higher CRI. Since they’re not really going to win the lumen-war anyways… may as well go for CRI.
