Your not alone Manny.
There’s a Tug Of War going on in my head too.
I really curious about how does he achieve 240kcd withthe TN31. There are few guys who used 78mm aspherical lens with overdriven XM-L and still couldn’t break the 200kcd barrier, not even come near to it. While Michael’s TN31 with 70mm+ reflector and a just-on-spec driven XM-L can achieve over 200kcd? Please educate me.
He probably use one of these http://www.wavien.com/shop/cree/cree-xm-l-rlt
Very interesting technology.
I have realized that 1 main factor is reflector !!! Here is a pic of right is the Skyray King…… On the left the Elektrolumens ST-90 with a de-domed SST-90 and a 85mm reflector…… It doesn’t matter if you are throwing 4,000 lumens OTF without a good reflector there is no match……
!!
You think so? I don't think, reading his posts on this thread on CPF regarding the "Super Range Led Flashlight" which uses the Wavien RLT reflector-collar inside.
See from post 5, then 6 and 15. Saabluster measured 15Kcd out of that setup, which was rated at 200Kcd from manufacturer!

There may be a slight interest in under-rating a competitor's lights...
Copy-paste from that thread.

As I understand he was interested to see how that Wavien collar worked, because the idea behind it seemed good but then the results were not so good. So definitely sounds like he never had one of those in his hands before.
This dates back to 6th April 2012, not sure if in this meantime he got some magic out of it and implemented it in his line of modded flashlights...
There is no collar after all, in the CPF thread, he dedomed the factory XML.
Please do a detailed review when you get the light (tn31). Many people including me are very tempted I guess. 240,000. Wow
yes, after reading turbobb’s beamshots. i want the tn31. it already got massive flood and great throw. so this modded version should make it seem on steroids
Let us know when the TN31 arrives !!!
I and i think everyone who has ordered the Modded TN31.should have had an email update from Michael on its progress .I cant help but be anything but impressed by him.
DON…
as soon as i get it will give my thoughts on it
Mine is on UK soil……
DON…
cant wait for reviews with this tn31
I wonder if he will be swapping to XML U3s rather then the U2 (or T6?) he is currently de-doming. If we assume a 5% increase in surface brightness from U2 to U3 then lux should go from around 240K to around 250K.
I think I am going to have to order a STL-V2 and a few U3s once I clear out my C8s.
any updates to anyone that purchased from here?
I went round to dons last night, comparing the modded tn31 to a stock model, you can really see a difference, but then for the cost of getting it here, you’d really want too. It is impressive, more impressive was the comparison between this and a zy-t08, for a light costing £280 less, it really should have been more firmly thrashed.
Out of all those that said they were talking about getting the modded TN31 I haven’t seen any beamshot photos in manual exposure of around a 1 sec shutter speed yet that has impressed me to want to buy this light.
So take that as a hint.
I’m from the Show-Me-State!
Oh, I think you’ll like it ilf, bear in mind me and don are in Britain, he got a right ass whuppin at customs. It is awesome next to a standard tn31 its blatant which is the modified one, I just can’t justify that kind of money on a toy…… At some point we’ll try and get some beamshots, but last night was not the night, we had some modding to do.
