New to Solarforce L2P, Can someone help answer a few questions?

I recently purchased a Solarforce L2P from http://www.solarforceflashlight-sales.com/product_detail.php?id=264&s=7&t=FB
for work however I am not too sure which drop ins and batterys I should get…

I will be using this flashlight primarily for work at night time.
Does anyone have any recommendation? Ideally, I don’t want to spend too much on battery, battery charger and drop ins…

Thank you all in advance!

Hi,

I have L2P for 2 years already (I think)
I’m using it almost every day for work in a shipbuilding. That’s a good and tough host, it’ll serve you well.
For drop-in I would highly recommend this: http://intl-outdoor.com/p60-dropin-module-cuxm2-xml2-p-740.html
It’s well built, reasonably priced and you have plenty of led & tint options. Plus, Hank will answer any questions if you have.

In my experience I used Ultrafire, Solarforce and drop-ins from IO store (which is the best by far) so I can only compare to those. I’m sure some of the more experienced users can recommend you other drop-in as well.

Regards

I Highly recommend these pflexpro.com is coming soon Bullet Proof!

Both of the earlier suggestins for Drop-ins are great.

For battery and charger, look to mtnelectronics.com

Get either an Xtar or nitecore charger, and look at his selection of batteries

Do you know how much lumen this drop in output?

It depends which options you choose. There’s not much mystery or magic in lumen output , it’s a simple calculation of what emitter and how much power going into that emitter. So which options would you choose? The XM-L2 U3 or XP-L V6 are going to be the brightest, estimate 1100-1200 lumens, will vary some depending on your battery.

I’ve bought many Drop ins over the years with one of the best value/performance ones being a Manafont 3 mode T6 dropin. A few weeks ago I bought the IOS model Noki mentions. I opted for the XP-L version. It’s due to arrive any day now. I bought it as its a quality product. The driver is 3.04A and the LED is a XP-L V6 on a noctigon PCB. This should result in a very good performing drop in. Only problem will be heat management which is a P60 weakness that requires some attention. I plan to use aluminium foil to improve thermal conductivity between the P60 Drop in and the torch host. There are many comments/video re this. In theory the drop in I ordered should result in approx 1,200 lumen for a short time on fresh cells.

I’ve had a L2N in grey for two years and have a L2P en route as I post this. I totally concur with the recommendation above for intl-outdoor and mtelectronics P60 drop ins which are identical from these vendors. Ove the years I have migrated from lumens as my priority to tint. 400 to 500 lumens is plenty for almost all applications. Now if you want to illuminate something a football field away, well…. Accordingly I also have a Nichia 219b P60 drop for its high CRI tint incoming too. The older L2N sports a XM-L T6 P60 drop in.

As for batteries stick with protected 18650s. mtelectronics offers an excellent 3500mAh EVVA Sanyo-Panasonic 18650. Other solid choices in protected 18650s all have panasonic base cells. An example is KeepPower. There are others. A suitable charger can be had from Xtar and other makers.

Does the L2P require one or two of these 18650s batteries?

One.

Solarforce are great lights, hosts. The beauty is you can play mix and match with them. The standard tube will take 2 CR123’s, or 2 RCR123’s (16340) or 2 18350’s or 1 18650. All you have to do is match the voltage of the batteries to the voltage range of the drop in. I like the Solarforce drop ins because they usually have a wide voltage range so they can work with 1 16340 or 18350 in a L2M or 2 batteries in an L2P or if you use an extension tube 2 18650’s without going past the voltage limits of the drop in.

Personally I like the XM-L2 drop ins but sometimes they deep discount some of the older models like the XM-L’s so it just depends on what you want to spend. Also Solarforce as recently started shipping their own brand rechargeable batteries to the U.S. I just received an order of Solarforce 16340’s with protection. I also like to use the Xtar IMR 18350’s.
