Very weird stuff, it has a mechanical switch, the circuit is completely broken when switched off. It uses a common switch (I believe an Omten) used in many other lights. As far as I’m aware the BLF D80 is one of the best designed lights out there, mechanically everything is simple and well-proven. Only the user interface (modified biscotti by flintrock) was a gamble but appears to work very well.
My two D80V2 do not drain cells fwiw.
Could be a soldering defect (slight solder bridge) at the tail spring causing a tiny trickle current bypassing the switch, not enough to start up the MCU and cause a faint moonlight, but enough to drain cells?
