The switch looks hard to press - but at least the lens is bigger than other xm-l headlamp zoomies….

That actually looks pretty nice. Shame it's not even a couple dollars less without the crapfire cell and charger.

the single battery holder. my question is the pivot sturdy? dthrckt you gonna take one for the team and get it?

yes, I like it. I think the charger is integrated. I wonder if the driver is in the battery compartment, too?

Price isn’t bad. I just don’t the look of the switch - but I find just about any headlamp switch difficult, as I’m often wearing gloves when I use one…

i’ve been eyeing this for sometimes too, but 1 single battery holder got me on hold…
if they have 2 batteries holder , i think i might jump on it.

kevin, have you measured the lens on the one you linked? and is the heatsinking different? I’d surely have to step that current up to 3A on high…

looks decent enough. i actually prefer using only one battery

the O.D. of the bezel on the one i linked is 44.75mm. cant measure the actual lens diameter right now without taking the lens shade off. it’s taped on. i will if need to know though. heatsinking is terrible. there is an aluminum tube that slides into the light head that the emitter and driver are attached to. there is approx 1mm air gap between the aluminum tube(pill) and the housing. for high current use the gap would have to be filled with something thermally conductive. want pics

if you ever need to take it apart, pics would be great.

it seems they should have put some of the aluminum that’s in the zoomie part into the main part…or just made it lighter, since those fins probably aren’t helping.

still looks like a good lamp though, as I’m sure you’ve found out with this one, zoomies are all about lens diameter (and short focal length), especially with xm-l…

i added a very thin o ring to the counter bore of the slider i think its visible in this photo. this extended the focal distance just enough to get perfect focus.

oh wow, so that pill just drops in there, no threads or solid contact with body?

if so, I think i’d add copper foil until I had to lightly tap it in w/ a hammer 8)

glad you got it to focus. can’t imagine why they didn’t do that.

edit: in the pic you added, looks like you might not even be able to add a stip of copper all the way around, but even if you just get a couple strips it might help heat a lot

the slider that is in the front part of the head threads into the back half of the head. the oring that i added or just the aluminum lip if you dont put the oring in, pushes the aluminum “pill” into the head making somewhat solid contact. the slider also has an oring on it(not shown) that will eliminate any heat transfer in the front half of the head.

the copper foil might do the trick. i was thinking of sealing the pill in the back half of the body with rtv silicone. then fill the void/cavity with glycerin and screwing the slider/front half on. kind of passive liquid cooling. but messy.

oh, ok, now i get it, i think. so maybe you could only put foil around the base.

you could test what thickness it needs w/ regular aluminum foil (I can’t recall how thick my copper is, .007?), and i’ll send you a strip…would only cost me a stamp…

I wish they’d make that same lamp but with the emitter mounted right to the body. I’d get one and drive the snot out of it J)

the exact same thing. for now though only1.5A, so heat in’t really a problem. thanks for the offer though i will keep that in mind. if i still worked at the machine shop i would make a pressed in adapter. i had a green xre in it for awhile. thought i would try dedoming it. didn’t work. now it has a red xp-e

yeah, 1.5A i’m sure is fine. I don’t know why I have this thing for pushing everything to the edge…maybe I’ve read too many reloading manuals
