newbie question regarding led+driver replacement

Hi

I am the happy owner of a Mastfiff M2 infrared illuminator (AKA ultrafire UF-800)

I say ‘happy’, because 940NM flashlights/illuminators are usually VERY expensive (100$ or more) and P6 drop-ins are usually too floody. So, finally finding a cheap (25:money_mouth_face: 940NM thrower flashlight, was awesome (my second generation monocular really thanked me).

The bad things came out when I tried to run the IR illuminator with two 16340: despite tecnical specs, the led eploded.
Seller gave me his apologies, and sent me two new bulbs: an infrared replacement (for free) and an XML one (that I paid). He also told me that those bulbs could SURELY work with two 16340.

Again, I tried one bulb (the xml one) with two 16340, and again it exploded.

He gave me my money back and I stayed with my infrared bulb.

Case closed.

Now I have a dead bulb (led+driver+metal base assembly) that I want to repair with something that will work fine with one 18650 (no more 2x16340 for ever!).

The mastiff metal ‘led+driver’ base is screwed inside the body and is really similar to the one of a common C8 flashlight, but is REALLY longer.

FLASHLIGHT DISASSEMBLY

It’s a 3 centimeters long metal-cilinder, with the led on one side and the circuit+spring on the other. This cilinder has cooling fins, and since the flashlight head also is bigger than the one of a C8, I want to use all of this coolers.

So the question is………………. (please consider I am a REALLY newbie)

Can I mount this led+circuit assembly?

I would look at www.mtnelectronics.com or www.intl-outdoor.com depending on whether you’d rather receive shipments from the USA or China.

Both are good vendors with small product lines for you to choose from.

Pick a 7135 bases driver such as the qlite and pick an XM-L2 mounted on a Noctigon.

I suppose you suggest this because USA sellers have better quality control than China ebay sellers…
I am from Italy and I only have paypal… Let’s see if I find what’s needed and if shipping fees are good.
Thanks!

  • I do not trust random eBay sellers on emitter “bin”. That guy says XM-L2 U2, but it could be anything really.
  • Direct copper boards such as Noctigons are generally better than the regular MCPCB the eBay seller showed.
  • The eBay driver looked like some random low-end direct-drive driver. You will find no big fans of those on BLF / CPF / etc.
  • The type of driver I suggested is well understood in the forums. There are many people here who can help you with a 7135 based driver such as the qlite / Nanjg 105c.
  • I suggested two different reputable vendors, one from China and one from the USA. Both guys accept Paypal. Both of them carry mostly good products and will deliver exactly what you order.

IIRC the postal service in Italy is not so good. I thought you might have a preference between USA and China as a point of origin.
