NITECORE EC21 XP-G2 (1x18650) (Short video) (Runtime first 30min)

Nitecore EC21

It is more compact than I thought. 3400mA 18650 protected batteries fits ok. The interface is very friendly.
XP-G2 (R5), smooth reflector, good distribution of modes (1-20-100-210-460 lumens). Red LED for next works and reading voltaje (0.1V), two way antirroling clip, direct access turbo mode and to low mode,…
I am working on the review.

A short video, please view the full screen for full texts.

Nice, first time i’ve seen the clip. Still waiting on mine to ship…

testing runtime EC21 in Mode Turbo, in advance first 30 min. (2 steps)

Thanks, couple of questions - is the light able to be shifted back to max output with a half press of the switch like the EA4 or do you need to switch it off or change modes to go back to full turbo?

Do you think the gradual step down in the first 8 minutes is intentional or due to thermal issues?

Hi CRX;
Sorry, tonight I can extend data in further detail. I think is a intentional double step down (first 3 minutes stable, after gradual decrease),I’ve seen other models with this type of regulation.

@CRX - there’s no half press in EC21. Runtime graph is very disappointing for two reasons:

1. Nitecore “forgot” to mention about first stepdown.
2. It’s not necessary, EC21 has only 460 lumens so there’s no much heat.

Yeah, it does seem a bit strange with a relatively low powered light, my light shipped a couple days ago so i’ll see if i like that behaviour soon enough, thanks

Hello guys, my english is so bad… I don’t know if I will translate this review.
If anyone wants to see it, here in Spanish, review complete about Nitecore EC21. ( I must only add the conclusions):

well done!

Thanks for comment M4D M4X.
I will try to add this days a short version of this review in english with all pictures and graphics (with english text) here.

The complete runtime on Turbo mode:

That’s another negative suprise, it’s completely off Nitecore claims.

My EC21 doesn’t accurately show the battery voltage. It routinely shows voltages of 4.8, 4.9, etc. There’s a glitch somewhere.

You must contact with your seller. Obviously something is wrong with your EC21. Perhaps you must make a short video showing the voltaje reading for the seller or for Nitecore.

Bought it from Illumination Supply. Another member on CPF says his shows readings like 8.8 and 8.9, so I think mine is not the only one.

You not the only one here. Mine is also showing 4.8 at this moment. I got it from IS too. I will contact Calvin later.

“4,8V” is nothing, it’s just one blink too much. I got the one with 5 (five!) extra blinks. Yep, my EC21 tells me that my 18650 cell has 9,1 volts…

I also don’t really like the beam (it’s not very clean), especially htspot - it has lots artifacts and it’s not exactly a circle…

I got it from BG today (i already sent them a message about it). I hope they’ll reply. If not I’ll ask Nitecore, they helped me once with EC2.

I like its size but not impressed by power or beam pattern. Also tint is too cool. Probably coolest among all cool white lights I have (about 7 of them).

It supposed to be less bright in exchange for throw and I’m fine with it. Beam profile is ok but the quality is not ok. Tint is a lottery - mine is cool but I had cooler Nitecores or Fenixes.

Mine at the moment all ok. I really love the interface (direct access to Turbo mode, direct access lower mode, direct access to strobe, direct acces to red led. Electronic lock and one of the best distributions of modes that I have seen.) The beam is not perfect but I am bored of XM-L and XM-L2 on compact 18650, I really like this beam in outdoors.

Here’s a short video of mine showing a voltage of 4.9:
