I wanted to ask for your opinion on Nitecore MH12.
I like the UI with separate mode switch button and an on/off button with momentary on. The voltage indication is a great idea. I think it can be very useful to be able to charge the battery in the flashlight without having to carry and additional charger.
Do you you guys have experience with this flashlight (e.g. led tint)? It looks like it’s an upgraded P12.
Do you think the charger is worth the extra $20 over the P12?
Is it a big issue that there is no step between 270lm(mid) and 1000lm(high)?
It’s currently available on Banggood for $59.95 (link). Do you think it’s a good price or can it be had for less (I know there is a coupon for P12)?
Unless you need the built-in charger, then you are better off with the P12, or even P10. Personally I prefer the "swap the battery and go" philosophy. At work they have finally turned from Streamlight and turned to Fenix with built-in chargers BUT I have found that for charging to work it must be a proprietary Fenix battery and when looking at the battery it is an 18650 in a Fenix housing so that a regular 18650 does not fit (similar to what Streamlight does with their LG 18650's)
I have not looked into the TN12 much but one disadvantage I see is the lack of a battery status indicator.
You might be right about the usefulness of an internal charger. It’s probably not as a big of an advantage as I initially thought.
It’s really odd that Fenix uses proprietary batteries. Although that’s probably not the case with MH12 since the package contains Nitecore NL188 battery, which is also sold separately as a standard 3100mAh 18650.
Hi. I too would recommend the TN12 . Good level spacing (including moonlight), bright and pocketable.
But if you have your heart set on the Nitecore then I would say go for it
Personally don’t really see the use of the battery voltage indicator. On high powered lights it’s really obvious when a batteries voltage has dropped to the point where I’d want to charge it. (normally 3.5-3.7v resting). As the output isn’t as intense. No need for an indicator to tell me this.
If it was an emergency and I needed to run it for longer, then to hell with the battery, let it go flat and buy a replacement if you don’t fancy trying to restore it.
