No more pennies

I want silver for my silver certificate. It is legal tender, and legally I’m entitled to the dollar value of silver.

Yes.

Yup, I have credit card for purposes of a credit score also. Depressing we are all numbers in a machine that decides “yes/no” based on a bunch of black box algorithms.

Still keep £200 or so of cash on hand at home, problems with online banking/ATMs/payment systems happens regularly enough that it is prudent to have a backup method of payment.

In the UK the Royal Mint frequently has a year where no 1p or 2p coins are minted, I would assume it is only a matter of time before they are discontinued.

Parking meters around here often don’t take a credit card either. You HAVE to have phone and an app. Some people will never go downtown again.

Cashless is the way of the future and now. Social Security check direct deposits into our checking. All purchases are on credit cards (reward cards), cards auto pay in full from checking. We also had some rewards to burn up so bought prepaid master cards and loaded them on our phone wallets. Also paid some Doctor bills. We get some huge, almost unbelievable rewards offers from our Shop Your Way card. Just got back to back “spend $750 online, get $250 back”. Multiple offers are sent out and stack and somethings overlap. Currently we are using "spend $1000 per month on GGR(grocery, gas, restaurant), get $100 back per month for 1 year. Incidentally, those pre paid master cards counted as Online purchases. You can order groceries online and get rewards from both online and GGR reward offers. It would be crazy not to use our cards for everything. These reward offers are not advertised. You have to get the card and wait for these targeted reward offers to be emailed. They are in addition to normal GGR and everything rewards which are advertised.

A kid can swallow a copper penny without problems. However a copper clad zinc penny will destroy their stomach.

True but kind of alarmist. The problem is rare and only happens if it gets lodged, doesn’t pass, allowing the acid to work on it long enough to dissolve the Cu, getting at the zinc and then forming toxic compounds.
Most swallowed coins pass without incident.
