How does the new D2 N121M optic compare to the frosted lens on my current D2?

1 Thank

These are the N121M optics, it has even beam pattern, with slightly more throw than the frosted optic.

I’ve been looking at Jackson’s site, and I might go ahead and grab one of these first KR1AAs. Of the options he list, which one will be the throwiest 90+ cri option in the ~4000k range?

Anyone know if it’s possible to do a mixed emitter build in a 1-Ch D2 with 5000k SFT25R & NTG35 / 519a?

I know physically building it isn’t the question, it’s whether either of these combos would work electronically.

Or, perhaps if anyone knows these would not mix well to the eye…

For 90cri the sft70 3000k will have the most throw, I’d estimate ~6000-7000cd, so not really a thrower, a d3aa with ntg35 is around 9000cd for reference

NTG50 will probably be around 5000cd, not sure about xhp50.3 HI, if it’s 90cri it should be between the sft70 and ntg50 in throw

How many different lenses do they offer for the D2? What are the names going from most clear/throw to most floody/frosted?

The original D2 came with two optic options, Clear (spot) and Frosted (flood). Now there’s this new N121M optic, which should be a bit throwier than the frosted one.

I assume the Carclo Clear optic Hank offers for the new D2 is the same one that was used as the Clear option on the old D2. The Clear optic only works well with the 519A domed, other LEDs produce a square-shaped hotspot with it.

I’d prefer the older frosted optic for the most flood. I contacted Hank regarding the absence of the RGB option for the switch. He said there was no room in the head for the extra wires needed for that.

I’ve only ever ordered Hank lights with RGB, so this may be a reason to not order one of these new single channel D2s. With the single color backlight can it still be controlled through Anduril as High, Low, OFF?

Yes, high/low/off modes. This brightness of the button is linked to the aux (RGB) mode.

I also prefer the frosted optic for the most flood for close-range tasks. I use a different headlamp for distance.

I received my D2 single channel today, it’s so great! Thank you Hank. Great work on these 14500/AA flashlights

519a, it’s a huge circle hotspot, it’s floody but has nice throw too
