Noob looking for advice

Hi guys.

After google I came across 1lumen.com and from there came here.

I bought a cheap xml-t6 a couple of years ago…the £5 versions and was really impressed…who woukdnt be after a lifetime of plastic £2 bulb torches from wilkos.

Anyway, its time to replace so I wanted to buy something proper. I guess the t6 I have runs around 300 lumens…not the claimed 2000… And after 2 hrs reading websites I’m going down the rabbit hole.

I’m happy to spend £50 or so.
I’m thinking 3000 lumens plus (I’d have 50,000 if I could hide the purchase price from the wife) as I have a 15 acre field which is around 300m across and I’d like to reach the far side and flood an area half a football pitch when checking the perimeter at night and bringing in the animals (being careful not to blind them of course)

I was looking at the Astrolux MF01 Mini. I hear Convoy is a good make. Imalent also but probably too expensive.

I will run proper batteries now I have read that makes a big difference compared to using AA Duracell…so much to learn lol

So links to products to buy or advice will be very welcome

Then I would suggest the Astrolux FT03 it features a XHP 50.2 led and 4300 lumen output with the ability to do what you need for under the budget and comes with a battery.

Thank you both for the replies. I will look into both of your suggestions.

The wife distraction seems well thought through and I will keep you posted on that one.

One thing I’m hung up on is not getting conned into buying a fake copy. I’ve never heard of banggood until reading this forum…is it an OK purchase site? ….what I’m saying is when I spend £50 or £100(with added wife techniques) I’d like to get a real 4k lumens product if for example thats what what I buy….I know nothing is guaranteed when using these types of market place site…just thought I’d ask…

K1 with SBT90.2 ?

Real 4500 lumens, very well built and a pretty good punch.

Welcome fellow countryman, enjoy the rabbit hole! I started around 4 years ago with an LEDLenser, until I saw the light. Now I must have well over 50 torches. Explaining purchases to the wife is probably the hardest part! ‘Yes but this one does this and has this!’

With regards to Banggood, generally they’re ok. Just pay with PayPal and be prepared to wait. I’ll only use Banggood if I can only get it from them (Astrolux), or its a particularly good deal. Otherwise I prefer to use the manufacturers sites, Sofirn, Emisar, YLP ect. As for Convoy, Simon (the owner) has his own store on AliExpress, so that’s what I use. He also offers a bit of discount for BLF members which is nice.

As already mentioned, the Convoy M3 is a good choice, as is the L6 if you’re looking for something a bit larger with longer run times.
I’d also recommend checking out Emisar and Noctigon (same manufacturer, Hank) great torches with great build quality.

Honestly, you have a lot to choose from. You’ll find UI’s you like, ones you don’t. Tint’s you like, ones you really don’t like! Form factors you prefer over others or for different situations. Have you thought about a head torch also?

SOFIRN SP70. It’s so big I have to capitalise! It’s wall of light light.

Again many thsnks guys for taking time to help me….I’ve niw hired a 1 ton mini digger to help me excavate the rabbit hole.

I’ll let you kniw what I go for…worryingly I can now see me buying a few lights for different reasons….oh dear…its going to be expensive…but fun…

This is where the fun begins, Harters  Get used to receiving your torches in an address like work or someone else’s home, and make friends with the postman. It’s an old flashaholic trick :sunglasses:
