Mostly to curb my addiction, I have a self imposed moratorium on first gen Cree LED lights. I wont buy anything that doesn't have XM-L2, XP-G2, XP-E2, etc. How about you guys?

XP-G…not so much, unless it something like a 4C tint. XM-Ls are still great emitters, and have their own qualities. The selection of XM-L2 is still very limited, especially for a tint snob. I think there is still not enough testing to know which one is better for which application.
I think your poll should have separated XP-G and XM-L to reflect a truer opinion.

If it has the features I want, I still will. I do prefer to buy current but if the light does what I want I will buy last gen

It's not like XM-L2 is from another planet compared to XM-L1. If the features are right, of course I'll buy some.

I’ve done the exact same thing… it’s saving me a lot of money!

There are only so many XM-L2 and XP-G2 lights out so far… an XP-G2 on a 16mm star only costs ~$3.15 (and I imagine XM-L2 U2s will be available for less then $6 before too long).
If I have to spend $3 and 5 minutes of my time to make a torch that has the right features and is 10-20% brighter at no cost to run-time I will.

I’m a bit torn on this tbh. There are some lights I’d like, but I can’t see the point paying the full price when you know they will be upgraded at some point.

For example:

HD2010
SkyRay King
Nitecore EC1
Niteye EYE 15

These are all lights I’d like, but I think it’s worth waiting to see if “old stock” old emitter ones are sold off cheaper, or pay the same for the newer emitters. I know I could upgrade them, but again that’s just counter intuitive if I’m paying full price now.

I’m still buying xm-l and xp-g emitters for mods/builds. When the 2 versions are more readily available in the tint I like (4c) I’ll change over for new builds, lets be honest, an xm-l at 3+ amp is not exactly dim
