Hello fellow addicts flashoholics. I want to thank everyone here for the wealth of information I have learned from lurking here. You guys are the best. A little flashlight story from tonight. My church had out annual harvest party at one of our members farm and there was a "haunted hayride" mainly for the kids. We were told to bring a flashlight to help spot the bad guys. Of course being a devout flashoholic I had brought a Sipik clone with a 14500 in it, a UF2100 and my X9. Most of the folks had some anemic LED light or the old 6V incan lantern. When I fired up the Sipik clone zoomed out and I spotted the first bunch at about 100 yards people asked what I was using. They could not believe it was so small on a AA sized battery. When I fired up the X9 (mine is 2.4A on a Trustfire flame) and lit up a white house about 300 yards away it was, and I quote "You got to be kidding me" bright. A lady asked to borrow a flashlight so I gave her my UF2100 and told her to not look at it and push the button on the back. It came on so bright it scared her and she dropped it. As Crockodile Dundee would say "That's not a flashlight. Now this is a flashlight!" I guess we lumen junkies are so used to bright lights we forget how bright they are compared to the old incan stuff. But I will have to concede to the light bar of 6 HID's on the farmers new tractor.
Thanks again for all the great info on lights, batteries, chargers and stuff. And I think we wife hates all of you. I really need to get to the mailbox before the wife does.
I hate my friends, all of them expect a football stadium light when i activate my DRY and then it's like: oh it's less bright than i expected... while still being like 50 times their brightest light.
Ha, same here. It's all about managing expectations though... I try to tell them it "might" be "a little bit" brighter than their lights. The problem was that I didn't have a dark place to show it to them--it was downtown with all the street lighting on. :( One guy told me he thought his $8 headlamp was brighter (it's a single-LED model, probably an XR-E or similar, driven off AAAs, probably less than 100 lm). There is one group of friends I haven't shown the light to yet though. I'm waiting for my turbo driver to arrive before I show it to them.
Haha so recognizable petey. Had the same problem with the places i showed my light, also too much light pollution... Can't beat 10 streetlights :). Waiting for my Turbo now as well to show to the rest of my friends :). Very funny if they say their lights are almost as bright while obviously they aren't... But those incans just focus the light a bit more so ofcourse you will be able to still see it in the spill of the DRY...
