This is useful!
Cool. Thanks, I’m gonna print that off and make a ‘Time Zone Dial’ out of it.

That’s a great idea, I may try that out too. It would be interesting to have either the map or the timezones rotate axially.
That’s what I plan on doing. Print off 2 copies, laminate them both (the missus has a laminator), maybe rig up a jig like a compass to cut out the map on one (or just use scissors) then lay that over the other and pin it in the middle.
Awesome, let us know how it goes.
Now I’ll have to find a spare clock to mount the chart on… ![]()
Hmmm… mount it on a clock?? If only there was a 24hr analogue clock. I could mount the map directly to the hour hand.
Yeah, I haven’t seen a 24 hour analog clock before, maybe in the military?
Or maybe I can fiddle with the circuit/gears and see what happens, haha.
That’s a nice one, easily read. The clock idea is cool.
Just don’t get one like the Doc’s office had when I was a kid, it ran backwards. The dial was reversed with the number one being left of 12 and it literally ran backwards, it was correct, just a mental trap. ![]()
And I’m betting if you look you will be able to find a 24 hour analog. I have a Swiss watch with dual mechanism, 12hr format for the standard 2 hand clock style, and a 4th hand with an arrow on the end showing a 24hr format. (3rd hand is sweep seconds)
Got that years ago, in Ti no less, so surely someones doing a 24 hr format.
Railroaders, military, doctors and nurses, lot of demand.
Thanks Dale! I didn’t pick up any wall clocks before but I’ll have a look for them just for this cool chart.
Shipping and import charges are twice the price of the clock. :~
Is anyone familiar with quartz circuits?
Knew there had to be some out there…
Ok, so what if you were to cut the outer ring off and hard mount it such that it fit just inside the numbers…the interior could then be affixed to the inside of the hour hand to rotate with the hour. If your area is at the correct time for you, the rest of the world would show on the clock at appropriate time for them in relation to you. Then the world would be turning in the middle, would that work? Just one print needed, cut off that outer ring with a razor blade (carefully). The trick would be getting it sized appropriate to the clock, but not a huge deal there.
Yup, that’s exactly what I was thinking but with a 12-hour clock, the time zones wouldn’t work out because it would be rotating twice as fast as a 24-hour clock.
It would be very cool if XKCD sold custom made clocks with the chart on it.
Actually, the outer ring would need to be flipped from bottom to top, since the clock starts at midnight and not noon. Other than that, that ring could be left off and just let the clock numbers be the indicator.
That’s true, it would work out pretty well.
A wrist watch would be a cool idea too, I do have some cheap ones, maybe I’ll tryout something.

Any 24 hour timer will do.

I thought the world was round? Thanks for setting me straight. I guess I'll see you guys around.
Is this a quantum clock? Looks like you can go to Antarctica to be in all times at once on that clock…
The picture is not static, it is updated. I.e. you just need an application that fetches it at regular intervals an displays it, then you have your clock.
