So I need to get a razor for my son who’s about to head off to college.
Saw an ad on Facebook from Banggood for one of the Philips-style 3-head electrc razors, and it had me wondering if the razors they sell are any decent. They’re cheap enough, but I don’t know if they’re so cheap that performance is badly compromised. They seem to be compatible with genuine Philips replacement heads. Gearbeast and several other Chinese places that are a flashaholic’s go-to stock these kinds of razors as well.
This is the one I saw:
If they’re any good, I might get one for me as a backup razor to keep at work.
Thoughts?
I always wonder — with all the usual Chinese sales sites — if what we’re being offered are seconds.
It’s hard to believe that whole large country can be running on nothing better than the kind of poorly made, inconsistent, and very cheap stuff we see being sold to us.
I suspect often what we see is odd lots, batches of rejects, seconds/thirds — stuff that we are not going to see again.
The pattern is nothing consistently made the same way months later shows up.
It’s hard to believe that they have no quality control.
So I’d guess there’s a quality assurance/QC step upstream somewhere, and there are lots of better-made, more reliably put together stuff being sold elsewhere at higher prices.
Yes, of course, there are exceptions — mostly they have some individual’s name and pride of work associated with them.
It’s the big batch Internet sales stores I’m dubious about.
Especially when it’s something I’d be putting right next to my face.
I mean, hell, electric shavers these days use li-ion cells and have built-in chargers.
You want that next to your eyeballs every morning before you’re barely awake?
looks like rechargeables to me. lead acid 2v cells? idk
I had a few cheapo chinese shavers and they are fun to play and performs as good as the real deal until the battery dies
if you don’t mind a battery swap to a pair of nimh (or be creative with li-ion) then go for it.
I’ve never tried the corded shavers though. Most of my rechargeables battery died before the blades got stuck or blunt
I just went back to the classic razor styled for my hairless face
I have used Panasonic for many, many years with no problems I prefer the Arc 3 over the 4 or 5 those are to big and don’t shave well under the nose and parts of the neck.
Last time I used rotary was about 12 years ago, maybe the rotary technology has improved…
Hmm, so none of these seem to make any mention of what sort of battery technology is being used. My shavers have always been old name brand models with non-Li-Ion batteries, I imagine NiCad. They are definitely lethargic and don’t hold a charge very long. I wonder if these Chinese models are any better in that respect.
