Okapi Lockback

I saw this on AliExpress and had to share it.

From what I can tell Okapi is a POS folder made in South Africa, so this is fairly clearly a copy, but given the South African reputation it’s probably better than the original.

A thin folder with a 16cm blade? That’s a big one.

I have one made in Africa but, I do not trust the lock. The steel seems top notch & holds a very sharp edge. These were intended to be sold to Africans with very little disposable income. Its a decent cheap knife IMO.

Cold Steel have the Kudu, which is a similar knife although a bit shorter at about 11cm and they do know how to make strong locks.

It looks like a mini-machete to me. The looks can kill.

I was in my local knife shop yesterday and bought a Cold Steel Kudu.

I wasn’t happy with the factory edge, so sharpened it at 15° per side.

Cuts very nicely now.

Given that it can sell as low as $6US I think it’s a candidate for a budget knife.
