OK -i have wanted to change the XPL to a XPG2 S3 or S4 for a while now, lets see what we have,
!
I want to fit the noctigon 32mm pcb with either the s3 1c or s4 2b dedomed- but it will require a couple of new mounting holes and the wires fed through one side to fit the pads. I will have to reflow the led [first time ever] using some solder paste which i will pick up tomorrow- to be cont:
We’ve got faith in you, reflowing isn’t too hard. I’ve had to do it once myself. I bet she’ll throw a good ways once your done though, can’t wait to see it.
How did you manage to get the negative and positive the right way around? Even though I know which way they go for some reason I still get the occasional one around the incorrect way.
I had to double check with my magnifying lamp and then check again. Was very easy to do with the solder paste, just put it on my electric bbq plate[about 3 quarters] and thru a puff of smoke i saw the solder melt. It aligned itself perfectly , square and plumb.
The dedoming went well and the tint is very nice[no green]. I had to drill and tap two holes to screw down the noctigon pcb, where as the original pcb was held in place and tensioned by the reflector only.
!
Now what you really want to know- using 2 x imr 18350,s i measure 305 KCD and 940 lumens!!!!!! On a single AWT 18650 40a 2600 imr i get 272 KCD and 850 lumens - beamshots soon.
I would rip out the stock driver, it sound like it is limiting performance.
And use a FET driver or a just running it straight from the battery for max performance, that is what i plan to do with a Jacob A60 mod i am doing with a XP-G2 S4 2B.
This is the first i have hear of the AWT 18650 40a 2600 battery, they must be very new, i wonder if they are VTC5 based?
Hi cajampa, this is as far as i will go with this mod and i wanted to retain all the original modes. Even on med mode it pumps out 98 kcd! Its possible the AWT cell could be a wrapped vct5, im not sure, but they really are a good cell and drive this light harder than an efest 35a 2100,s and panasonic ncr18650b,s. There is a new AWT 18650 3000mah 35a imr which looks good, just out also.
I am amazed at the output of these new xpg2 leds matched with a noctigon pcb. Here are a Jetbeam bc40[ on high] and a thrunite tn32[ set on 1132 lumen level 5] versus the M2X-ut xpg2 !
!!
!
!
First is the bc40, second the tn32 third the m2x-ut, this means the olight m2x xpg2 is at least 20% brighter than my bc40 xml which i rate at least 750 otf lumens. Outdoor beamshots soon.
