When I get the urge to rant or carve someone up. Occasionally I do it. And then after I’ve expelled the demon of frustration, I’ll delete the whole thing without saving it. Or, delete the parts of it that are spiteful. I’ve read a number of posts recently by members claiming innocence in the spite wars that could have(should have) easily deleted 1/2 or more of their content. I am quick to anger and frustration. It is a constant battle for me to take a step back and say “do I really want that in print?”. Generally, if I have to even ask the question, the answer is self evident, NO! and I delete. Sadly, this battle does not seem to be taking place at enough keyboards. Please just take a moment to reread your posts before hitting”save”.
This + 1gazillion and 1. Think for your damm selves, its not hard, its not rocket science, its simple (to me) human nature, be kind to those around you, your peers, your group, then that group will stay your group.
Gords & Cone, completely agree with you. This is just a forum (and funny, relaxed and probably the best one i know specially because of the lack of too many rules and mods). Kind of weird that so many adult people get so pissed mostly reading clearly labelled threads in the off topic section (including those ones with a bazillion pages which have no sense anymore and look like drunkies conversations). As far as i care, this forum is still as cool as it was before, and if i choose to keep checking it and which posts i read,i don’t get why should i be blaming someone else or the forum itself. When it stops being funny, there are plenty options out there. With the seriously wacked things that happen in our life, moaning about an internet forum must be on the top 10 most senseless things to do.
fasttech shilling a little is ok w/ me - at least they started just 1 thread, and any company that sells that sort of stuff and responds to my requests for this kind of thing gets at least 1 pass
but complaining about changing topics (with some exceptions….for example a sales thread or obvious trolling)…or double posts…or posting in old threads….that’s all BLF, and I like it that way.
especially old threads - why NOT bring them back up…at least the guy searched!
Stop…just stop.We have a great place here. This is SB’s house. It dosen’t need more moderation…we just need to be more polite. If you all acted like this at my house I would kick you out.SB has the right to do that as well, show him some respect and get your acts together.I like it here, and most of the people here as well.As for the ones I don’t, I don’t have the right to tell you to leave……only SB does. Please remember…we are all guests here!
Pulsar - Question? I happen to like Surefire. Anyone who knows me well will know i have a small collection in addition to plenty of brands you may like or have. I like them all, some more than others. I don't offer this information or withhold it when asked. Its a flashlight. Do you dislike the manufacturer or something they represent Or is your (maybe not anger) open dislike perhaps directed towards the owners? maybe they have something in common that you have a distaste for? If you understand my line of questions you'll see i'm not bashing you or critical of your opinion. Im curious why you would mention them or your dislike above perhaps a subject you would rather discuss?
And the sig below is for an A8 BLF Edition. a reminder to the manufacturer to SHIP my A8!!
No moderation is the key selling point of this forum. Many find here more relaxing than other forums.
And no moderation doesn’t mean no rules. To me, moderation is redundant at this moment. In future, when thing get worse, then we can start considering moderation, it won’t be too late. Just my opinion.
No forum will ever be perfect. I don’t know but I believe SB is reluctant to bring the hammer down maybe in hopes that we can usually sort things out on our own. With intervention on his part the process ends without resolution. Some members will continue to bait and bully but those are few. It only takes a moment to decide whether to react or to respond(big difference)to what you are reading. Thanks Gords, this was a good idea for a thread. I never saw a thread like this one “over there”. Yes, the newbie stomping was irritating, but it is the behavior of the DM’s that really put me off. Don’t want that here. Be your own DM.
From what I’ve seen of the chippy, power hungry and over obsessive rule abiding moderators on CPF, I certainly wouldn’t like mods like that on here. This has to be the friendliest forum I’ve come across, and SB is doing a great job. Rufusbduck raised a good point, if there is a bit of conflict going on stamping it out immediately with an overbearing mod isn’t going to resolve the issue, just prolong it. Hence let the posters let off a bit of internet steam, he he. . Case in point the gun debate, seemed to go on for only a short period of time, disappeared and the debate hasn’t continued since. Stamping it out too quickly may have just led to a prolonged debate. Spam I’ve noticed disappears as quickly as you can blink, great stuff.
Surely budgetlightforum is considered a fairly large forum now? I think it’s doing just fine, a timely reminder every now and again to chill, in the end we’re just dudes that like our toys. Let our common sense and sane decision making prevail over the+too+ obsessive rule abiding mod approach, it’s working just fine.
I’m surprised myself a bit and in a way I am not. It seems just like any other online forum here. It’s sad when people go seriously off topic or start to attack somebody for something.
Post when your post has a value and will add something good to the discussion, otherwise, be quiet. That works pretty well.
