Oslon Black LED for C8 How Do I Do it?

I would like to put a oslon led in a C8 host, what needs to be done? I understand modding and soldering and reflowing all that but I was told it’s a bit more complicated.

You need regulated driver.
You need pcb with isolated base (ask led4power about them).
You need custom(?) centering ring.

Most Oslon leds have an electrically neutral central solder pad and can be used quite well the normal way on a normal DTP XP-board (Square series, SSL series)

Only the Oslon Black series leds have the central solder pad electrically connected to led-minus but I assume this the the led you want to use. So if you use a DTP ledboard, the led-minus is electrically connected to the body of the flashlight, which bypasses any driver and connects the led directly to the battery.

There are a few ways to prevent this:

1) use a non-DTP board. This decreases the thermal connection of the led to the body a lot, a Black Flat can not be driven to maximum output. Even using the best non-DTP boards like led4powers Mosled extreme board reduces output significantly.

2) electrically insulate the DTP-ledboard from the flashlight while making sure that the thermal connection is still very good. I only managed to do that in flashlights with a removable pill of which the upper side can be made completely flat using ever higher grit sanding paper on a perfect flat surface as reference. If both board and pill are matched in flatness you are able to glue the board with an extreme thin layer of Arctic Alumina adhesive, creating very good thermal transfer and still electrical insulation.

3) be nice to Lexel and ask him if he has finished the special Black Flat reversed driver that regulates the led via the batt+, and convince him to build one for you.

Hmmm…is it worth it for one of these oslon LED’S? Are they really as awesome as everyone says?
