Im thinking about using a P60 style light as a headlamp on some occasions.
Anyone know of a perfect fit lens that would make the light more “diffused” and remove the hotspot while still having high output? (I currently own L2T and 501B hosts)
Id like the lens to have most of these features:
-No/minimal hotspot (Minimize tunnel vision. Ideally I would like to convert the hotspot into spill so that the light would be quite even, or with slight fade outwards from the center)
-Max flood and diffused light
-Minimum decrease in output
-Cheap
I searched and saw some had bought some types of tapes and stuff, but I believe such things will decrease output a lot…
I see Zebralight uses frosted glass on their headlights. Anyone know if that would be good on a P60 and where it can be bought? All tips would be appreciated! Especially links to products…
SF sells a frosted lens, but the one that I received was too thick for my L2.
DC Fix, sold in small quantities by a couple members on CPFMarketplace, works well. It's cheap and it doesn't diminish output that much. It's best for XML drop-ins.
Going to try the DC-FIX since its cheap and I get spare film that might get used for other lights/lenses in the future. I also have a AR coated lens on the way (from kaidomain) to replace a stock lens, so I will soon have a spare “stock” lens that I can combine with dc-fix.
One thing I forgot to mention. DC Fix has a crinkly texture to it and it shows up in the beam as small artifacts when you look at it up close. I would say that the effect is noticeable out to 1 meter or so. I don't think it's a big issue as I don't find it distracting, but I thought that I should mention it.
I simply remove the lens and put a slightly oversize piece of DC-Fix on it and remove the excess material with a razor blade by cutting against the edge of the glass at a forty five degree angle .
