Wonder if they are underdriven - as per the description.

Looks like they are direct driven since they have so narrow voltage range.
Only 1.4A? A day late and a dollar short.
Most of them state they are driven at 1.4A to give 450lm, which quite worryingly might actually be an accurate lumen rating...that's got to be a first for DX :P
Just the 2 x18650 says it gives 900lm but no details on the current draw.
look at the beam on the Brinyte XML-900 I would love to see some real beam shot comparisons with that.
1.4A , should be good .. Under driven , so heat may not be a real problem , + 450L is plenty of output , now all they need is a 3 mode [ less the junk ] .

I respectfully disagree: 2.8A would be better, you can always put it on medium if you think its getting to hot.
And then you gain higher subjective brightness because of the PWM. In the 0-3 amp range, from what I've been reading, the gain from PWM outweighs the efficacy loss from having the peak draw be 2.8 amps. So a medium PWM 1.4 *should* look decently brighter too. :)
Some folks want a single mode , + output + decent run time , but then you do have options , head on over to Manafont .. Mine pulls 3.4A measured at the tail .
Life is about , FLAVORS ! .. If everything tasted the same ?
IMO,The most a P60 dropin can manage is near 4,5W or less , an XM-L drived at 10W there can't give more than 700 Lumen since the junction is at 30% loss or more , even the body temperature is not an indication of the emitter temp since the thermal path is open due the air gap...
IMO well designed dropin
I agree, I wouldn't recommend to any of my friends to get an XM-L drop in above 1.5 amp area.
Actually though, I'm referring everyone to that Brinyte C8 XM-L because the design does seem to be ideal for a small light getting rid of the heat, and the reflector in the Brinyte might be better if you want throw. Dang it, I wanna see some beam shots of that bad enough where I might just buy one. :P
Why not? Pretty nice at 2.8A for a dozen of minutes then medium for the rest. Perfect for bike.
