How about MCPCB with 4 XPL-HI. One at the centre, the other 3 just surround it.
I am not sure can the driver drive them in series at maybe 4*3.7V = 14.8V?

+1 & well said DENGOH….
There is absolutely nothing a Lumintop rep here on BLF could tell anyone that TA has not already told us. That being, the lights are being built & they are shipping. Hopefully at the rate of 150 - 200 a week. That depending on number of reflectors being received by LT each week.
Lumintop owes no one a detailed shipping schedule or exact time. As long as each person gets what they ordered, all is well.
That said… hopefully the needed info for customs can be provided to those few who actually need it.
To expect more, just because you ’want it now’ or ’feel like’ shipping order was not like you would have done it; is unreasonable…. and quiet frankly childish.

So 6 weeks after payment and waiting is unreasonable for asking when my gt will sent??
When you now other already play, even modding gt’s, ask for accesories, etc.
LT or Neal too busy to answer that?
Even they already prepare to official sale.
Remember, about “OP” reflector… they tell us some kind of word… so, yes they now if people asking about shipping too
And who quiet frankly childish? Member who asking lt or neal about shipping OR member thats easily click rude button for member who asking

I can understand you, I am also still waiting. I think Lumintop is trying to work thing out as good as possible. Their English is ok, I’ve got messages from them in very good English. I worked before with a Chinese agent to buy stuff in China. It works different there. Sometimes you don’t understand what they are doing. But my experience is that it’s a matter of patience and things will work out well.

maybe we better limit future group buys to 150 to 250 units...
see quality and get first reviews
the second run can be done off the shelfes of a regular shop then who has bigger resources for warehouse and shipping
(which obviously raises the price drastically)

No, they are still in the first half of the group buy. So definitely not last.

xxx, I think you need to cool down more. Everyone is anxiously waiting too.
Are you in the first batch of 555 orders or 2nd batch? Now LT has shipped 500 lights and start shipping 2nd batch. 6 weeks for 500 lights are considered not slow to me. We want to have quality product, right?

“Everyone is anxious”, nope, many people have received their 2nd light, or even 3rd light, who know?
and now we are on the 1st list, the first 555 guys paid payment, still have no idea where is our light on this world, 6 weeks after payment
I am #48 on the Interests List and have payed as soon as possible, but I am waiting too.
I have choosen registered shipping. No flashlight was shipped with registered now, as I know. First we have to see pictures of the two packages and videos of droptests.
This Poject lasts more than one year. So some weeks more or less …, never mind.
If it arrive within the paypal costumer protection, it is ok.
I want to have my flashlight too. Better sooner than later. But I can wait.

.
Edit: It is shippded when it is shipped.
It is arrived when it is arrived.

What you are describing is the xhp70. It has 4 xpl/xl-m2 dies, but they are much closer together than individual xpl’s.
Voltage wise, it is the same. 4 dies in series. The xhp35 is basically 4 XP sized dies in series.
Arranging 4 dies in the pattern of one in the center and 3 around it would create an ugly looking beam pattern with very poor throw.

I thought the center led will make sure throw not degraded, just smaller hotspot, No?
Yes/No:
XHP70 = 4*XP-L/XM-L2 (XP-L an XM-L2 die have not exactly the same size, Vf, … , but they are nearly the same.)
XHP70.2 = 4*XP-L
XHP50 = 4*XP-G2
XHP50.2 = 4*XP-G3
XHP35 = 4*XP-E2
All LEDs except XHP35 can be used in 6V or 12V config, depending on MCPCB they are reflowed on. XHP35 is 12V only.
XM/XP-Size is only the footprint.
L, G, E is nearly the die size.
If you want to use separate LEDs instead of XHP35, you can use XD16: http://www.cree.com/led-components/products/xlamp-leds-discrete/xlamp-xd16 or similar.

1st shippment Dec 27th (168) (start)
2nd shippment Jan 03rd (194) (1 week after first)
3rd shippment Jan 08th (138) (5 days after first)
So the first day the shipped all they had, they made another 200ish shipped them a week later, made another 138 and shipped those 5 days later.
It’s now 9 days after the 3rd shippment. Surely we can’t be to blame for thinking that there must be 300+ lights sitting there ready to ship unless there are problems. Maybe the reflector is being problematic.
Knowing that the first batch was 500 does seem bit odd in that maybe the guys who make the reflectors agreed X amount and now there has been a problem? Just seems odd to be a nice round number.
For the sake of numbers I was 86 on the list and 158th to pay. Sure skip the first shipment, I saw the number sent (168), saw my position and got hopeful but just accepted it. Sending them all to the states made sense. The second one, heh suppose I’ll get over it. Missing the third… urgh!

At first I was hoping to get the GT within a month after paying at the start of December. Now I am happy if I ever get the light without an extra €50 tax. I am not waiting anymore. I’ll see it coming one day, and there is paypal protection. It’s a mindset. Some folks are lucky in getting the GT early. Others are waiting in the dark. But one day there’s someone at your door hopefully.

The first batch and second batch was just about payments. Payments were started early mainly to give Neal some time to match them up to the earlier down payments that were made.
Now that we are into the shipping phase, first and second batch payments are combined into a total 850 orders. So these first 850 orders are trying to be shipped starting from who paid first to who paid last, but that is not perfect.
Most folks “early” on the paid list have gotten their lights. Most folks at the back have not got their lights. 500 lights went out, but there is still 350 more to go.
Fortunately, now it is that time of the week when we usually hear about another shipment going out (Tue/Wed).
Dec 27 - 168 lights
Jan 3 - 194 lights
Jan 9 - 138 lights
Jan 17 - ??? lights
Hopefully we will hear about some registered mail tracking numbers and the very few people from the front of the paid list (you know who you are) will finally get their lights shipped.

It will only be about 1/3 (?) the brightness, so not as much distance. I’ve never seen such an arrangement so I can’t say for certain.
The one advantage of seperate emitters is you can wire them differently. I’ve considered 4 xpl wired in parallel to make a kind of 3v xhp70 for a close range floody light, but no one makes a mcpcb like that. No one also makes a mcpcb like you are describing so I guess we will never find out.

Wouldn’t the XHP70.2 = 4*XP-L2? Both are the newer flaky phosphor style.
Thanks for clarifying the the xhp35 uses the xp-e2. I could not find that info.
