I am interested in building a light with the SunLike 3030 violet-pumped LEDs (STW9C2PB-S); however, since these emitters cannot handle much power, it takes many of them to produce decent output, and I am looking for recommendations for getting a small PCB that can cram as many of them onto it as possible. I am planning to put them in a S2+, but will consider other compact hosts if that makes things easier.
There are these triple mcpcb that use Carclo 105XX optics. I am using one in an S3 with 4000K 6V SunLike and a 17mm 2A driver set to 50%. The 6V SunLikes have such a high Vf though that even using 100% doesn’t matter.
I also had some of these 23mm 12X mcpcb for mules made by jlcpcb. I got the gerber files from a user on reddit. He asked I not share them, but I could give you his info.
Thank you so much for the ideas! That looks like a great setup, though it seems complicated to get the PCBs, and presumably expensive as well for a one-off project.
I’m thinking about getting some cheap aluminum 2835 boards (example) and reflowing the LEDs there in exchange for lower operating current. Does this seem feasible?
I got 20 aluminum mcpcbs made for $4.80, but I chose the upgraded shipping for $17. The standard shipping was around half the cost. Copper would’ve been significantly more, but imho not worth it for emitters without dtp.
Those mcpcbs you linked should definitely work, if I’m seeing right the smallest is 24mm. You might be able to trim it down enough to fit an S2+.

The only annoying thing about the PCBs I linked is that they can only take 6 emitters. I’m thinking about extending the solder footprint by sanding the PCB from the top until I can expose the copper trace (2 rings of it, positive and negative), and then cramming some more LEDs onto the newly-exposed copper trace. Does that sound realistic?
